Luckily I'm not working this week, but just to remind people, the J-man arrives tomorrow, and will be here for a couple of days.

Anyone recommend pubs, museums, food in the city centre? (closer to Waverley the better). Good beer a must.

Guildford Arms for beer (east end of Princes Street, opposite the Balmoral Hotel, up the lane next to Burger King). I recommend the Dark Island if they still have that in there.

Thanks. I'm still open to more suggestions but won't know the times I'll be there until the weekend.

Thanks for recommending the Guildford Arms. I tried the Dark Island (had it before in bottles) but for me the Stewarts? IPA was outstanding. The blonde beers they had were a bit tasteless sadly. I found Avalanche Records too and spent a fair bit in there. Yesterday was such a lovely spring day I couldn't believe it.

Avalanche is moving to the Grassmarket, which suits me just fine.

I've not been in there for a while - do you know when they're planning to move? Is it going to be a bigger shop?

I was a bit worried by the "to let/sell" sign outside.

I dunno. I saw the "sell/to let" sign, but then a "don't panic we're moving to the Grassmarket" poster in the window. S'pose I'll check the website.

Anyone going to this?

Quote:
‘Charity Baw II featuring ‘King Creosote’

After a great 2009 welcoming to the stage the likes of Vashti Bunyan, Aberfeldy, The Real Tuesday Weld, Withered Hand and many more, as well as raising thousands of pounds for Oxfam and The Haiti Appeal, the Baw team are back. On the 17th of July at Edinburgh's Roxy Art House, Charity Baw are delighted to welcome King Creosote (Full Band) along with Ballboy, FOUND, Panda Su, Three Blind Wolves, The Sexual Objects, Over The Wall and Maple Leaves.

The Roxy Bar will have DJ sets from On The Fly (Fence Records) and the ‘Bang Bang Club’. The Bar will remain open till 1am.

July - greatest music month ever!

I'm supposed to be working until 10pm at the Western General but am still wondering if it might be worth getting a ticket in advance to catch the end of the night anyway. Tis for a good cause and all that anyway...

Thinking about it. FOUND are gash, but a full band KC set is always fun and I've been wanting to see Panda Su for ages. Maple Leaves should be right up your street Lyns - saw 'em with Withered Hand and SHMB a couple of weeks back and those of the indiepop persuasion would be particularly delighted by 'em. I thought they were... ok!

If I do go, would be coming straight from the fitba and a pre-season game away at Berwick. The glamour...

aye, i do like maple leaves! we put them on last year and they were ace. i'll see how the finances are holding up a bit nearer the time - they're currently in a chronic state but we'll see.

I'm not sure if it's 100% confirmed they're moving to the Grassmarket but it should be right by Red Eye Music shop. They should be doing lots of other stuff in the new venue too. Exciting times!

http://anorakforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=36&t=4304

We've been talking about it for ages now and thought it about time we got our act together. As I mentioned a few pages back it's heavily inspired by Half My Heart Beats which we think is brill!

So...
Bringing Up Baby
The Wee Red Bar
Thursday 30th September
10.30-3.00
£4 Entry

Anybody game?
