:-)

Close Lobsters are one of those bands I don't think I'd ever seen - I had no idea what they looked like, then or now. Much like McCarthy and The Bodines (until I saw a recent video and the singer had a was all shiny-fringed and pouty! Mm.)

Anyway, one of you posted this video on Facebook and I dig it! The guy from The Jazz Butcher introduces the Close Lobsters from outside the Thekla in Bristol (!) and they play one of their most awesome songs. There's a female guitar player in the band and I was like, 'YES! This band is even better than I thought!' but, alas, she was just brought in for the video taping as the original guitarist was busy. :-(

Come to the merch stall on Friday 9th and Saturday 10th, you will find a box for the swap there. Anyone wants to sing the official tune of Madrid Popfest 2012?

Here it is:

http://madridpopfest.bandcamp.com/track/madrid-popfest-2012-sinton-a-oficial

And lyrics...

Madrid Popfest a The Garlands y a Cola jet set

Madrid Popfest el pop llega a mi corazón
Madrid Popfest el pop llega a mi corazón
Madrid Popfest uhhhhhhh
Madrid Popfest uhhhhhhh

Here's the English translation, courtesy of Google translate.

Bored with my exemplary life
Today at home at 12
In my small town
Nothing excites me
I live in a capital
From very humble provinces
Comfortable and beautiful at the same
But without cultural offer

There are no bars with programming
There are only two or three concerts
So far not reached by the underground
And even Maria Sarmiento
He took the wind to Madrid
A great event
Coming from New York,
Glasgow, London or Hong Kong

Madrid City Popfest colored dresses
Madrid Popfest indie pop up in the coat
Madrid Popfest tunes that you sing
Madrid Popfest until your voice can not be more

It is time
Today the alternative queen
Songs made of heart
Madrid wears pop

Madrid Popfest live in the capital
Madrid waiting for the festival Popfest
Popfest Madrid a year ago made me dream
Madrid Popfest good today has just begun

Madrid Popfest seek honest work
Madrid Popfest in my piggy bank I will keep
Madrid Popfest so you can return to view
Madrid Popfest at The Garlands and a Cola Jet Set

Madrid Popfest pop goes my heart
Madrid Popfest pop goes my heart
Madrid Popfest uhhhhhhh
Madrid Popfest uhhhhhhh

I remember seeing Close Lobsters first time round and thinking a couple of 'em looked a bit older than their contemporaries! Looks like fun though, and I'd love to see When Nalda Became Punk and The Garlands again.

For all people that comes to Madrid Popfest. We have a Pre-popfest meeting !!

Since many of you are coming from different cities, we have arranged a warm-up meeting to hang out and get to know other popfesters before the concerts start. We will meet for drinks, tapas and pinchos on Thursday 8th at Bar Jose (C/ La Palma), from 20:00 to 21:30, just before the doors open.

Bar Jose is very close to Sala Siroco, just around the corner:

Again this year, we’ll have a fanzine where you’ll be able to check out the schedule and all the bands, as well as an interesting interview with two of today’s and yesterday’s indiepop gurus and a pop quiz! You’ll also find out about the top five songs for some of the most relevant people in worldwide indiepop, which will also get played this year between shows. Free with any merchandise purchase (totebags, t-shirts, badges, our cd compilation…). As an advance, here are Kip Berman‘s (The Pains of Being Pure at Heart) fave songs :

The Wake – Crush The Flowers
The Pastels – Nothing to be Done
Belle and Sebastian – Dirty Dream #2
Rocketship – I Love You Like the Way I Used To Do
My Bloody Valentine – Paint a Rainbow

Just choose your color !!

And finally don´t forget to bring with you your mixtape swap !!

If the weather is as good as promised I think Saturday afternoon is going to consist of finding a bar with a decent terrace for a few beers. I took this photo in the Lavapies district of Madrid a couple of years ago. It is a great place for a curry and it looks like the health and safety police don't visit too often.

I dunno the name of the place, and it's kind of difficult to explain how to get to it, but there's a cracking terrace at the top of a block on Tirso de Molina, I *think* on the corner of Calle del Doctor Cortezo. The bar itself is nothing special, but the view's pretty good :-)

Edit

It's called Casa de Granada.
