Forgot I even started this topic! I lasted 18 months on an allotment. I enjoyed it but It isn't for someone who works fall time methinks. A lot of planning required and despite the bumper crops of broad beans/squash the constant battling on my limited time with pests and the weeds made it too stres...

Carol Klein's Grow Your Own Veg (or smthg) is very good - kinda aimed at the neophyte. I had an allotment for 8 years. The relief when I handed the keys back was incalculable....
