Secret Gardens

A month and a half ago my little bedroom label put out a new cassette called Secret Gardens . It's a picnic pop compilation of songs about spring featuring 22 artists from 8 nations and 4 continents. Most of the tracks are previously unreleased, including new songs from people like Finnmark!, Sleuth...

Best Kept Secret cassette label

Long, long, long shot but does anyone have any contact info for the now-defunct Best Kept Secret label out of Italy or Alessandro Crestani, the man who ran it?

Re: last.fm

I'm so not with the times that I still predominately listen to mp3's using Winamp. The Chrome app will be useful, though, as I also stream a lot of Bandcamp stuff. I rarely do anything on the Last.fm site, though. It's more just something that happens in the background and once in a blue moon I'll l...

Re: Allo, Darlin'

Well, they were one hundred percent my favorite indiepop band of the moment and second favorite musical act in existence behind only my beloved Eels. Naturally this is dismal news to start a day with, especially since there's no way I'm getting across the sea for the last show. I guess my framed set...

Re: If you were making an indiepop chess set...

What about a pop card game similar to Magic: The Gathering or Pokémon? Heavenly played "boyfriend stays the same." Any cards played against their teammates will have no effect this round. Tullycraft played "lost in light rotation." Choose a card at random from your opponent's hand, which they must d...

Re: If you were making an indiepop chess set...

For my set, I had the idea of white being Team Europe and black being Team North America. (With apologies to all the great Asian and Aussie pop bands.) I'd want the big pieces to be just individuals while the pawns could be full bands. This is very rough but there's also nothing on the line so whate...

If you were making an indiepop chess set...

This will either be a fun one or devolve quickly into fierce arguments. Possibly both.

You're making an indiepop chess set. Two teams, 16 pieces per team. Who are your figures?

I assembled a Beat Happening tribute album from various artists' b-sides and one-offs: http://8tracks.com/fallenlove/paint-me-a-picture-of-the-way-you-feel-a-tribute-to-beat-happening No overlap with the Fortune Cooke Prize tribute album. nonfiction books about '60s girl groups, soul, pop rock?

Can anyone recommend any books about '60s girl groups, yé-yé, Motown, or northern soul acts? Broadly or focusing on specific artists. Biographies or general nonfiction.

I'm thinking artists like the Shirelles, Shangri-Las, Supremes, or any of the Phil Spector acts.

Re: last.fm

Yesterday marked 10 years on last.fm for me. http://www.last.fm/user/alongwaltz This is crazy to think. My last.fm account predates Facebook, my current e-mail, and pretty much any social media or online account I have. Back in 2006 I was a 21 year-old kid just discovering indiepop. My top 10 artist...

Re: Telephone Wires - an indiepop fanzine

Diet Cig and Franny & Zooey are the next two long-form interviews I can confirm.

Just started doing a bunch of one-question interviews with a whole list of other artists as well on the topics of debut gigs, first releases, first songs, and early bands. One month to launch date!

Re: Telephone Wires - an indiepop fanzine

I'm up to 6 long-form interviews for this issue so far. As previously mentioned, The Tuts will be the cover stars discussing their debut album in-depth. I've also just completed interviews with Seattle twee pop legend Dennis Driscoll and Peruvian noisepop quartet Eva & John.
