Gah! I have to watch the next season now because of the final scene of this season. Bloody cliffhangers...

haha, yeah. that's the moment we've been waiting for! really looking forward to next season. this one hasn't been great but there were a few good episodes and i think there was some "character development" going on as well. but yeah, a bit bad-soap-opera-y at times...hoping next season will be back on form.

Where will this go? Any ideas? I haven't a clue yet how they're gonna solve this.

SPOILERS IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THIS SEASON:

i think they maybe brought in the whole "you're in love with your brother" thing to make deb a little more...lenient on dexter. who knows. but maybe she'll keep it a secret, or maybe he'll say he wanted to kill the guy because he almost killed his son etc., rather than confessing ALL the killings he's done.

if next season is gonna be all about dexter being on the run from the police though, i am for real never watching it again.

SPOILERS IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THIS SEASON:

Do you think it's at all a possibility that he'll kill her?

I think an explanation like he wanted to kill the guy because he almost killed his son may indeed be what they'll go for, even if it's the easy way out. She may accept it after all the stress she thinks he's gone through.

SPOILERS AGAIN:

hmmm...i don't think he'd kill her. it breaks the code and i think he genuinely cares about her. BUT who knows what they're gonna do or where they're gonna take the season. that would be an interesting turn but it would make the audience dislike him, i think (as annoying as deb is...) and for me, part of the show is that i really love the character of dexter and spend so much of it hoping he'll get away with it/he'll realize he's not a TOTAL monster.

did dexter actually kill that guy? (i think i was too shocked at the deb thing that i failed to take in the details of the actual killing part!)

Dexter

SPOILERS AGAIN:

It was hardly a shock that she was in love with him though, was it? It was like, we've known that for ages. Or at least I've always thought so.

You know when Deb decides to stop investigating that prostitute death when she finds out the Deputy Chief was involved? I think that was done to set a precedent, showing Deb is willing to break the rules for people she cares about.

Hah! I think I've just kind of been overwhelmed by how bad its gotten and been totally unable to engage with it. I thought the final scene was really well done stylistically and I actually kind of liked the ending, but I can't help feeling they went about it all wrong (until that last scene). I think I stuck with it out of sheer perseverance for most of this season but, well, I'm glad I did. I think.

SpoilerShow
yeah, i think it really went downhill for a couple of seasons and it's never really got back to its old heights of greatness but i kept watching anyway just to see it through.

i thought this season was better than the last couple and i liked a lot of the twists.

i thought the ending was alright, really emotional at some points (i cried!) but kinda strange in others. but mostly just made me feel really sad.

one thing though - why did he dump deb into the ocean?! i think she deserved an actual proper burial. i get what they were trying to do - she's technically his last "kill" (that we see at least) and that's his usual post-kill ceremony and she was all wrapped in white and it had this peacefulness about it (in constrast to the usual black binbags) but i dunno. i didn't like that bit.

i thought he was gonna drive into the storm to kill himself but i guess not.

it's so sad that deb died though! and again because dexter decided to let the killer go when he had the chance.

but yeah, i think it was time for the show to end and they probably dragged it out for a couple of seasons more than they should have. it would've been nice if he had a happy ending though. he was so close to one!

Yeah, I agree with loads of that Sandy!
SpoilerShow
I think the reason I liked the final scene so much is that I think the past few seasons have been going downhill largely because Dexter has been heading towards this "I might not be a psychopath any more!" thing. Like, I KNOW there is a whole level of belief that must be suspended to even watch a show like this, but the idea that psychopathy can be cured by falling in love? COME ON. I thought the whole final scene was great precisely because it shows him alone and it's like all pretence of him changing has been dropped. I guess the whole point of the voiceovers and ghost Harry throughout the series was that it was him rationalising his behaviour to himself and I liked that the writers ended it with him sitting there, alone, without even his voiceover. It was like, yeah, this is who I am, whatever, deal with it. I wonder if the spinoff series I keep hearing about will focus on lumberjack Dexter? I'd pretty much watch Michael C Hall in anything.

I really wanted to be sad during the whole thing! During the Deb death scene I was just thinking "wow, it must be hard for those two to work together so closely after being in a relationship together", which probably wasn't what the writers had in mind.

I'm kind of annoyed at the hamfisted way they justified sending Harrison off with Hannah too. Would even a serial killer send their kid off with a serial killer? Couldn't he go live with Aster and Cody? I kind of felt like they shoehorned in a few scenes to make it seem like Harrison was ALL OVER Hannah. WHAT ABOUT THE TREADMILL, DEXTER?

I don't know how to do the whole spoiler hiding thing- but the last episode was so depressing! & yes, surely someone is going to wonder where Harrison is!
