i love my mum, and weekends are lovely when she calls me and blethers about nonsense for half an hour from the other side of the world.
BUT:
she just ruined my breakfast.

i was about 1 minute away from a soft boiled egg and soldiers when the phone rang. so i took the egg out and popped the toast up.

after i finished talking to her, i thought the egg would be ready, but it was all runny when i took the top off. ew. so i had to pour it out and make it scrambled, which is about my fourth favourite kind of eggs.
on top of that, i stuck the toast on again, to warm it, and it burnt.

so now i have cold, burnt toast and a scrambled egg, instead of lovely boiled egg and buttery soldiers.

How do you all have time for these decadent breakfasts?

I've just been disappointed by the honey and nut special K. You can't usually go wrong with honey and nut flavoured cereal, but Kelloggs decided to put chewy rice crispie things in this which just ruined my life. I only bought them because I panicked in Tesco; they've discontinued their lovely honey nut bran flakes. Criminal. And I know it's gone 4 and I've just had my breakfast, but I'm ill.

The best thing I did all winter was discover the glory of porridge with honey, banana and toasted cashew nuts. Mmm-mmm.

I have been floundering about the kitchen in the mornings of late due to breakfast apathy syndrome... very out of character for me as breakfast used to be the only good reason I could think of for getting out of bed. Managed to cure myself this morning, at last, with an oustanding slice of egg-fried granary bread (and ketchup obvs). It was unbelievably tasty. When my brother spotted it he broke his usual no-breakfast habit and made one too. Mm-mm.

No there 'aint. Stick your finger in your ear and then lick it. It tastes of Marmite, see? Think of all the money you could save by just putting earwax all over your bread. I might send that in to Take a Break.

You mean you've never put your finger in your ear for whatever reason and then accidentally put it in your gob shortly afterwards? Ever? You haven't lived.

Unless by some miracle my ears actually produce Marmite, which I suppose is a possibility.

For YEARS I've been trying to put a finger on what exactly the foul taste of Marmite is reminiscent of. I'd toyed with "stomach bile," "toe jam," and "used insoles" but none of these exactly captured it. Thank you so much for solving this mystery.

Despite my utter drunkeness and shatteredness last night I managed to get the breadmaker out and get it to make a sundried tomato and herbs loaf for breakfast. I cut two super chunky slices for cheese on toast this morning and sliced some veggie sausage on top, baked beans and loads of brown sauce and Henderson's Relish. A bit primitive but mmm! It killed the hangover in an instant.

I made something new for breakfast today. Pancakes, stuffed with slices of quorn sausage, onion and mushroom, tomato and mature cheddar. They were bloody lovely. I shall call them breakfapanstcakes.

phwoar! those sound lovely, pete!

i had the butteriest scrambled eggs known to man this afternoon. i somehow managed to sleep right through until about 2pm, and awoke in desperate need of fat and carbohydrates, so i had some granary bread, toasted and buttered and topped with a three-egg scramble cooked in about half a tub of butter.

i might try and coerce gavin into making those pancakes tomorrow. yum.
