I think Crystal Palace is pretty pricey, isn't it? Most of my friends live either in South East (Brockley, Camberwell, New Cross) or Leyton/Walthamstow, so I guess these areas are relatively affordable (although rent in Brockley has doubled in the last ten years!)

Crystal Palace itself is probably quite pricey but just down the hill - Anerley / Penge / Sydenham all gets a lot cheaper and still nice housing stock.

"Nothing is eternal in a city like London, and that includes the place names. New Cross was once known as Hatcham. The village of Garratt, famous for its mock mayoral elections, long ago vanished into the sprawl of Wandsworth."

Nice piece about the appearance and disappearance of names around the city:

This is great. The area around where I work is possibly the most prone to rebranding (rather than, y'know, organic change) and a few years ago, when they were trying to call it Midtown by sticking huge banners up, I spent a really drunken night out with one of my workmates where we renamed every area of London by adding rudeness to the existing names. Only Fuckonwood survived the carnage.

I was disappointed when I discovered that Crystal Palace wasn't literally just a massive palace made from crystal. But they do have dinosaurs in the park which is probably more exciting anyway.

I'm down in That London tomorrow for Joanna Gruesome. I love London.

But it got destroyed by fire in the mid-1930s.

I was wondering the other day what happened to pub club... Perhaps it'd be easier using Doodle or something to pick a date.

As for next Tuesdau, I'll try to come after my Pilates class (don't laugh).

Where's your class? Maybe we could find a pub that's nearby!

Just been sat reading my book (and drinking - I'm not crazy) on my own in a pub round the corner from my work (in Fitzrovia) and someone tried to chat me up with, "You don't look local - where are you from?" I suppose it's true I don't look like someone who owns a £2million flat with an indoor swimming pool.

Hey, anyone fancy seeing this with me at the Horniman this weekend? http://www.horniman.ac.uk/visit/exhibit ... kson-river

Aw, thanks M, but I just found out I have to quit my Pilates class anyway, as I am changing offices *again* and can't get there in time.*

So yeah. I'll be at work in Holborn on Tuesday evening, or could do South East, or wherever.

*it is a major ball-ache working across a minimum of 3 sites on a weekly basis, without a desk. I have nowhere to keep my tea bags.

Edit: Also Cat Smell are recording on Tuesday anyway so I definitely can't make it. Duh!
