Aw man, that's cool, if I was a kid I'd be demanding to stay there!

Plans are now forming for our mini tour in November. It should involve Orlando (for space coast fun), Nashville and Atlanta. Lots of room for changes as only the flights are booked so far - arriving at Orlando Int'l and leaving from Atlanta 2 weeks later.

Any fans of Southwest airlines here? There's a tentative plan to fly from Orlando to Nashville, and the fares for November are up but are quite high for the day we want to fly. Do they ever come down? Or is that it - once they're up, they just rise?

Re. Southwest, it's OK, I got 'em figgered. The fares do seem to shrink substantially, but I've signed up for Ding! alerts and it looks like I may be able to get the fare right down that way! Just need to wait and see - November's a long time off.

Southwest is reasonable, but if I'm not mistaken, it's typically the first airline to have to idea to add wacky extra charges and things. I could be very wrong on this.

Hmm, their website claims not to charge for checking in bags and stuff, but I've yet to get to the point of buying a fare. I may have a practice run and see what happens! We don't really have much choice as it's the only airline doing direct flights Orlando-Nashville and I'm damned if we're spending a crazy amount of time greyhounding it on precious holiday time!

I guess we got a good fare with Continental for the transatlantic bit, another cheapo fare would be a bonus!

Oh, my southwest Ding! just Dinged!

I live in Athens, Georgia, but grew up in North Florida, have also spent lots of time in the Memphis, Nashville, and Murfreesboro, TN area too. Mike

Yay for Southwest! I just kept a-lookin' at fares for the day of interest, and one day they just suddenly plummeted to less than half price, so I booked at like $90 each including fees. Bargain. By the time I got a Ding! alert for this time period, the fares had jumped right back up and there were no web exclusive fares left. Phew!

I really don't trust cheap fare alerts now!

Now - Nashville to Atlanta needs booking - Delta's fares are ridiculous, so looks like we're gonna have to Greyhound it. Eek!

Woo, Texas!

I go to school in Brooklyn, but I've lived in Houston my whole life. I also go to Austin as much as possible, and I spent one horrible year in San Antonio. The only time I went to Dallas was to see Jens Lekman, and I spent a few hours in Denton as well.

There are quite a bit of ex-Texans in New York, and they all seem a bit disoriented by the lack of meat and truck commercials on the east coast.

I suck at knowing what the South is. It's very confusing. We are in South Florida, and it's not called the South by lots of people, but Virginia, which is like 900 miles north of here is.

I believe Maryland is South of the Mason Dixon line, which would technically make it the South. However in my opinion, that just makes it not New England.

Okay, living near the beach and having warm winters is lovely and all, but screw the summer heat and these guys.
