It's desperately sad news, this is. It breaks my heart that all the unpaid love that goes in to keeping the place going can be a target for people to destroy. It doesn't make any sense to me whatsoever.

It's absolutely devastating, I just can't understand why anyone would do such a thing.

Have heard from the railway this morning, it was a non-operating signal box in the Hammermsith storage yard near Butterley, so thankfully services weren't affected but even so - they're all gutted that such a historic building has been destroyed overnight. It took three teams of firemen to put it out apparently, and because it was made of solid wood it's been entirely destroyed - only the bolts are left. At the moment they're not sure whether it was intentional arson, or a group of kids messing about and things got out of control.

The building is irreplaceable, but we've asked if Indietracks can help with running a specific appeal to buy something like CCTV, for example. We should know more on Monday, but in the meantime if anyone would like to make a general donation to the railway, you can do so using the "General Donation" button at: ... sform.html

At the moment I feel like we should get together a team and personally patrol the place 24/7 ourselves :(

It is absolutely terrible. If a CCTV solution is possible I would gladly contribute.

Maybe we could make indietracks 365 days long to ensure a permanent presence on the site?
