I would happily never hear Write About Love ever again, even if it meant forfeitting I Didn't See it Coming, which is pretty fine. The rest of the album reeks.

Unsurprisingly, that wasn't one of the three. I think it has it's moments though, but it does sound like they'd run out of ideas.

Write About Love is no masterpiece and does sound like they'd run out of ideas but fuck, i'd still take it over Dear Catastrophe Waitress.

This is a bit wanky:
Probably not even the band, who have become given to gazing back on their 1990s purple patch with almost as much gratitude and amazement as fans do, would deny that their more recent output isn’t a patch on those timeless early records.
Or: Even the band would completely agree with my opinion about their music, because I'm right.
Also he used 'patch' twice in one sentence.

I think there's a stark difference between their first three albums and all the rest they've recorded. Or even between their first two albums and the rest. I mean, Tigermilk and If You're Feeling Sinister are unmatchable, at least imho. Murdoch was at his best, his creative verve still fresh. Thereafter I notice some 'inertia' 'till the last album, when he tried to come up with something new. I don't really cherish this back way. Yet, at the same time I didn't like his pretentious attempt of keeping on with the lonely boy fancy dress, which didn't really suit him anymore. Maybe he just had to put an end to all this. At least, I think so.

i thought write about love sucked a big fat cock when i had all their other albums but when it was the only one in my cd collection it grew on me until it became my absolute favourite, like a latterday fold you hands in the way it restrosepctively got better as you realised howit pointed the direction forward but backwards as well, like latterly, mixed with the life pursuit and even elements of tigermilk.

but then i stood on it and broke it.

it would be good if they could recreate the magic of the push barman era convincingly though.

or if they just fucked off and died and let another indie band have a go like los campesinos or somebody even less well known

They were so good in Glasgow last night. Best I've seen them in years. I suppose the fact they're preparing to do Tigermilk & Sinister means it was full of old stuff but seeing them in a great wee venue helped as well.
Mary Jo, Me and the Major, Le Pastie, Mayfly, Fox in the Snow, Dog on Wheels. They're doing a different 1hr 45m set over each of these 3 nights in Glasgow so we also got stuff like Marx & Engels for what Stuart said was the first time ever live.
Not sure Tigermilk at the RAH will be able to live up to that now but am still thoroughly looking forward to it.

I'm looking forward to RAH for Tigermilk and still debating doing Sinister the next night. I'm curious to know what 'other' songs means in the event description but your post gives me hope for good things, Chris!

If you fancy going dancing after the Thursday night show, we're doing a one-off HDIF at The Phoenix, near Oxford Circus tube. It'll be on from 11pm-3am.

I really enjoyed both nights at the Albert Hall. It was especially great to hear If You're Feeling Sinister particularly as I'd completely forgotten the track listing so when they started I had that wonderful tingly feeling that happens so infrequently nowadays. Ah, it took me right back. I suppose that's part of the point of playing old albums in full.

Here are the setlists:

Are the two Belle and Sebastians duelling it out? How can you tell which is which?

I once entertained notions of catnapping the cat off the cover of 'swansong for you' for a record cover. i thought all the indie bands could send the cat around each other and put it on their record covers like a bunch of people winding up someone with postcards from a garden gnome
