Surely there's a themed split record to be made here...?

I'd like to see Pete Green and Sam doing a song about Grimsby Town F.C

Kind of like the Anfield rap, but without any actual rapping or footballers and more talent.

Whereas i only want to see said song if it's an actual rap.

And Sam.

I'm being deeply unfair. I've never heard Sam sing.

Ha! Small world - we've got Paul fiddling with a tune that sounds like Shakermaker! And Elie's defending it!
I may be ugly and hate-filled but... wait, what was the third thing you said?

Pockets Filled With Matches are no more, but we still have copies of our e.p. 'If Time Heals You' for sale, if you'd like one

Oooh, nasty. At least ours sounds like 'Wonderwall'!

This is *not* the singing we're talking about, I hasten to add.

Is it the overuse of the word "shine"?
And by me, I mean, Flexo.

humblebee wrote: I'll tell you what that was about. After I played the Moseley folk fest, I stayed at my brother's and he put Soccer AM on in the morning and The Cribs were on that, and that one out of The Cribs with the rubbish hair, they were asking him things and he was just being gormless on purpose to get laughs. He totally knew what he was doing. I mean it's not just rubbish hair as well - it's rubbish hair on purpose. Although I dunno, maybe he's like that all the time. I just thought, shit, what a contrast for Johnny Marr, being in a band with one of the most articulate popstars ever, and then later ending up in a band with that monosyllabic bore. And boor. And maybe boar.

They didn't even talk about football!

You all know what I'm talking about with the northern men who do that though, right?
aw pete! i actually really enjoyed that soccer AM thing. but i would because i'm in love with ryan jarman. i feel kinda bad for the poor guy because everyone's always taking the piss out of him! but i don't think any of that awkwardness is put on or contrived, i think it's actually what he's really like (from every interview i've ever seen, even super old ones when nobody really knew who they were). i think maybe he was extra awkward because he's not really into football and i don't think he was too keen on the soccerette thing (i loved his sarcastic applause after that) because he was probably thinking it was objectifying women or something. he actually is really witty and intelligent and the total opposite of those liam gallagher types! i mean sure, he's a bit grumpy and awkward but that's part of the reason he's so lovable. i don't think i'd love the cribs as much as i do if he wasn't in the band.

also, i think his hair is ace! and I like the way he has to say "you know, kinda like" about a million times before making his point. but like i said, i'm in love with him so I WOULD find these things endearing and sweet. funnily enough, i saw one of the nevermind the buzzcocks episodes he was on before i was into the cribs, and i didn't even clock him at all. i remembered almost everyone except him! so maybe i was thinking the same as you at the time.

(ps. you're really lucky your hair is so good, otherwise you'd have FELT MY WRATH. i actually think a ryan jarman cut would suit you. DO IT!)

(i also never thought i'd be ranting about the cribs on the pete green thread!)

Well, Sandy, you clearly know more than me. But are you too close to your subject?

Maybe I got him wrong and chose a bad example. But it is the prerogative of every obscure musician to make bitchy comments about people who are more famous than us!

heee...i think i'm the last person in the world who can give an unbiased opinion on the cribs/ryan jarman. too close to the subject is probably an understatement! i mean, i even like his freddie-mercury-esque leather jacket! i can recognize it's a crime against fashion but it still looks totally cool to me. that's how biased my opinions are!

(also, don't think i don't feel TOTALLY LAME for sticking up for someone in a band who i don't actually know.)

Indeed. Pete, you will eat your words when we win the NME Shockwaves 'Best Band Name 2010' award. And they will taste of soot.

Meh heh. Never let a drummer make decisions!

You lot should come and play in Sheffields. With the Juggernaut. Fairy can play two sets in one night and we can watch how sweaty he gets.
