Slumberland Records

Hope nobody objects to a wee Slumberland update...

Phil Wilson "Industrial Strength" EP available for pre-order!
As the creative force behind seminal 80s English pop titans The June Brides, Phil Wilson should require no introduction. The June Brides were active during that critical period in the mid-80s when savvy bands were consolidating the lessons of punk and laying the groundwork for what we might now call indie-pop. The June Brides' sterling pop tunes, urgent playing and literate lyrics placed them in the A-League with groups like The Loft, Jasmine Minks and Hurrah!

After the dissolution of the Brides, Phil recorded a series of superb solo singles for Creation and Caff, but then dropped out of the music industry for nearly 20 years. Now he's back, and we're awfully pleased to be able to bring you his "Industrial Strength" EP. A rather interesting record it is too, featuring acoustic drone-folk covers of Faust, Throbbing Gristle, S/T and Kraftwerk. Phil digs down to the surprisingly melodic tune at the core of each of these songs, and re-imagines them in a totally unique way. Spread out over four sides of a double 7", this record is a brilliant and mesmerizing treat made all the sweeter by being wrapped in a fine sleeve designed by Alistair Fitchett of the Unpopular label and blog.

For a limited time, we are offering the double single for pre-order for only $5, which is $1 off the regular price, plus postage. Check out the news page on our site for MP3 samples of Neon Lights (originally by Kraftwerk) and It's A Rainy Day, Sunshine Girl (originally by Faust) and buttons to order directly from PayPal:

New podcasts posted
-- Possessing a record collection to make most of us cry and a sterling memory for detail, Stew Boyracer is a natural to kick out some hot podcast action. His and Jen's debut "Kitchen Sounds" set does not disappoint. Full to bursting with rare DIY pop and punk from the likes of The Petticoats, Motorcycle Boy and Scars, it's the informative commentary that really sets this one apart. Pay attention and take notes, because you are about to get schooled.

-- At Kid Frostbite's house long summer days and warm summer nights demand a healthy ration of sweet soul sounds. "Summertime Soul, Vol. 1" is a strong eighteen tunes that are sure to get the feet stepping and the fingers snapping; go ahead and sing along, we'll be doing just the same.

So there you have it - we're clearly not taking the summer off, but we hope you find some time to. We'll provide the soundtrack.

Slumberland Records: Sexy Kids and Bricolage singles out now

Post by kidfrostbite » Mon Nov 10, 2008 14:15

thought you all might like to know that our new Sexy Kids and Bricolage singles are out now. sexy kids are ex-members of royal we and "sisters are forever" is an anthem, a future classic, a single of the year. our own shaved head thrill might agree. Bricolage continue their run of immaculate Scots power-pop singles with "turn u over" - it's a peach. album coming early 2009. more info about these and recent crystal stilts and cause co-motion! records at: http://www.slumberlandrecords.com/

am holding off on ordering the cause co-motion! 12" til the liechtenstein 10" is ready in order to save on shipping, but no doubt by that point there will be some other cool release a month hence ...

i know they're on captured tracks rather than slumberland, but i'm really liking the german measles, i believe there are one or more cause co-motion! people involved?

Really looking forward to the Summer Cats! Do they have some kind of connection to the Summershine band - The Earthmen?

Yeah, we might try and do a Nodzzz show too. You've also got Crocodiles coming over and Crystal Stilts coming over again. Might be overkill.
