i can't stop listening to the new ep! i love all the songs, the slower ones (states of undress, every heartbeat and your pain is a joke next to mines) are especially good. i just can't get over how good this band are. i hope they come play in london soon.

That came as a bit of a surprise to me. This is no reflection reflection on how good I think they are, because I think they're amazing, but I always thought they were a niche band that probably wouldn't get much wider attention. Not played-on-Radio-1 attention anyway.

Seasons Greet arrived today and I adore it. I really thought Your Pain is a Joke would be a difficult act to follow, but, oh my, this is equally as wonderful. Card From a Multipack is a late contender for song of the year, surely. And the Last Christmas cover is lovely. lovely, lovely.

New Just Joans long-player, "Buckfast Bottles in the Rain", launched later this month, with a gig at Heavenly Cafe/Bar in Glasgow on Friday 30th March. Note the new date - casualty of a delay at the pressing plant!

Release format to be a vinyl+CD package on the Weepop label.

Press Release and audio taster for the forthcoming Just Joans album, "Buckfast Bottles in the Rain".

http://www.weepop.net/downloads/Just-Jo ... rnoons.mp3

"Buckfast Bottles In The Rain
LP + CD

Gatefold sleeve , black vinyl, standard weight.

Buckfast Bottles In The Rain could, if you squint your eyes a little, be considered the debut full length album from The Just Joans, the Glasgow band named after the agony aunt from Scottish newspaper, The Daily Record. The majority of the tracks for this album appeared in a different form on "Last Tango In Motherwell", a CD album from 2005 when the band was simply David & Chris, as evidenced on the now legendary YouTube "Last Night In Glasgow" webcast series http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fTUXszTwOcM

The band has since expanded to a six piece, amassing an enthusiastic following with each gig, festival appearance, and through their steady output of mini-album/EPs on WeePOP records. Returning to rework these songs gives the opportunity to fully realise their pop grandeur. In the grand tradition of Bowie, Zappa and The Magnetic Fields, "Buckfast Bottles In The Rain" is a popconcept album, an audacious artistic undertaking, like a clumsy and shy Bukowski, set to the Sound Of Young Scotland. The first half of the album is based around the life of a 17 year old living in a small British town in the late 1990s'. "lonely, thoroughly bored and yearning for something more…". The second side is about the opportunity for change, leaving home to go to University, new friends, discovering sex, working; but ultimately yearning after the friends and the security of the hometown they were so desperate to escape from in the first place. Sigh."

I'm assured that Camila will let us all know. The album launch is 31st? March. Wish I could afford to go to Glasgow and get embarrassingly hammered with the band again but I have a 'prior engagement' that night.

I think I'll be sticking with the original version of 'Friday Afternoons' but still really looking forward to the album.

Yeah, I prefer the original too but the new version is still totally awesome. Is the version of Please Don't Talk To Me from the London Popfest 2010 compilation the same one that's going to be on the album?
