Quick, while it's still today go and look at the 'Did you know' section on the front page of Wikipedia.

They've called it a day. Let's just be glad we ever had them.

I've bought my ticket for the Scala gig. This is sad but not totally unexpected I guess. WHAT A BAND.

Boo. Mild shock made me miss a bit of Popmaster as well, so double boo.

Well, they were one hundred percent my favorite indiepop band of the moment and second favorite musical act in existence behind only my beloved Eels. Naturally this is dismal news to start a day with, especially since there's no way I'm getting across the sea for the last show. I guess my framed setlist from their last Toronto gig will mean ever more to me now.

One thing that they didn't address in the e-mail or Facebook post is that they've spent the last few weeks tweeting about being in the studio and recording new songs. So perhaps there'll be one final fourth album? I'd love if they could take the Tullycraft approach to no more live gigs but still releasing an album every few years.

pretty cool that in this one long thread you get the whole band history from solo to start to finish. and that an on-the-up allo darlin' were on the bill when a fellow fpop! band played their (london) farewell at the scala. so keep an eye on the support acts i guess.

is the gig sold out, or tickets just not on sale yet? didn't bother clicking on the link when the email arrived this morning.

wish i'd bought the weepop 7". thought (and think) that the slower version of "henry rollins" on the indietracks cd-r ep was greatly superior, but the added-and-mispronounced 'mackaye' in the re-recording really tipped the balance, so didn't bother getting it. silly.

edit: glad to have a moth club ticket. looks like a cool place.

My current favourite band say goodbye to my former favourite band:
There’s no meaning in A Long Forget. There’s no theatre in a formerly great band slowly becoming weekend warriors slowly becoming obsolete. Things are supposed to burn out instead of fade away. Few bands’ stories are seemingly so prosaic yet infused with such poise and judgment. It’s just like any one of their songs: a pocket novel that lends you some wisdom. Goodbye. Farewell. So long Allo Darlin’.

New single is the best thing they've done in ages. Turn it up indeed.

I've got two tickets for the Scala but would rather go to one of the Moth Club shows so if anyone would like to swap then please let me know.

If anyone is going to this and would be prepared to pick me up a copy of the 7" single that the band are selling, I'd be so so grateful...

Same story - if anyone is going to their shows this weekend and can pick up a copy of the 7" (it's for a friend of mine - honestly!), they'd be soooo grateful. Monetary rewards are on offer. Please PM me if you can help.

didn't realise the 7" was a gig exclusive.

although the digital version is sold by the allo darlin' bandcamp, the download that comes with the 7" is from the wiaiwya bandcamp, so i'd guess there's a reasonable chance that unsold copies will be available there.

plug for nik's photobook:
The second issue of Pictures Make Great Pets is more like a book than a zine. It's the story of indiepop band Allo Darlin's early years, with 100 pages of photographs taken between 2006 and 2012. It's a mixture of intimate snapshots taken at gigs, backstage, on tour, in the studio and outtakes from photoshoots. 100 full-colour pages, A5, landscape.

Last night at The Scala was pretty extraordinary. What a beautiful band. Talulah left me a wreck!

100 up for sale. I've just bought 15 and will be putting them up on Discogs/ ebay for 10 times the amount I paid for them. Ker-ching!

Is there really a market for r@re AD stuff? Is the Henry Rollins 7" going to be my pension?
