Hi Ian - hate to disappoint you but to describe the new album as Mary-Chain-esque is a bit wide of the mark :)

Hope to see you on Fri at the Bush Hall!

Can't make it alas, as I'm doing my soul night at the Buffalo Bar. Looking forward to hearing the new album!

I should've listened to myself back in the dark days of 2009. Been spinning Striving For The Lazy Perfection lots lately and it's bloody marvellous, but of course you already knew that.

Played 'Apologies' at my DJ night last month & someone came up to me to enthusiastically ask who it was by!

I love that song! Ragin' I missed them play it at Indietracks. Think I was at the bar at the time :(

I think the Orchids are a band who get better the more you listen to them.

Yes, this is true. Their last/current LP, has taken a time, but has grown to be just as important as any of their older output.

I guess that's a sign of a special band, one that sounds better and better the more you listen.

What are those 2 recent Orchids albums like? I haven't heard them.

I am not a reveiwer by any means, but both LP,s have been on my Mp3 player for some time.
And when set on shuffle it allways makes me smile when one of the Orchids songs pop up.

Worth finding out is all I'm saying.

I didn't get into Good To Be A Stranger so much (although every time I've seen them play those songs live I've loved them) but this last one has got some beautiful tunes on it. It's a real grower, although I'm shallow and never have enough patience for growers anymore.

Maybe I'll keep going back to the old records and maybe that's quite alright.

I read in the PYT zine that Good to be a Stranger was, felt by the band, as a excercise to get themselves back into the way of things.(Another Saturday Night and Last Thing were excellent) And I have to say that the flat recording of the record does not do the songs justice, as you have said hearing them live is different (I think that could be a real compliment that a band plays their songs live better than they recorded them). So they progressed again, and found their way with Lost Star(She's my Girl and Song for a friend also). If there is a pattern then the next LP should be of finding a form to emulate their
Striving.. Lp. And then disapear for another 15years.

Aw, that's lovely. You can just hear him say those things, can't you?

Had to send it to Team Indietracks because what he says about the festival on there made me a bit emotional. As did the bit about popshows. He's great. Thanks Tim!

Glad you got a kick out of it P and M!

So, some of the Orchids are attending Indietracks this year. If James is one of them, can we have a secret acoustic set? :)

one of my fav band's,did take me a while of listening to some stuff to get used to it *good to be stranger* for example, but the older stuff sunk in after one or two listen's enough to make me whistle it on a daily basis :)

I know what you mean. It took me repeated listens to fall in love with a lot of their stuff. But when I did, I fell for it hard.

Good To Be A Stranger is really quite lovely. I've been playing it a lot recently. They're as good as ever were IMO, although I do think Striving For The Lazy Perfection was their greatest. Who knows, maybe their next one will blow it out of the water.

I lost my virginity whilst listening to The Orchids! Well, I wasn't really listening to them but one of their singles (Sarah 23) was playing at the time.
Factoid!

I guess that means that The Orchids should be remembered by you at least and maybe your partner for the rest of you lives:)

That should make them happy. wish i had a musical memory for the occasion.
