The Flatmates

Post by Rocker » Wed Aug 29, 2012 19:33

Hmm... Couldn't find a thread anywhere else on here so I thought I may as well start one. You never know, it may come in handy.

Anyway, just in case anyone is wondering what Debbie Flatmate did after The Flatmates split up, she formed the bloody wonderful band Cake with her partner Howard and assorted ex Groove Farm / Seers personnel.

It is a tragedy that none of this band's recordings have ever been released before, but now I am putting that to rights by releasing a 13 track studio album of all the tracks they recorded, plus if you buy it you also get a free download 13 track live album which includes every song they never recorded.

You can listen to the whole studio album for free, as well as buying it on CD or download at this link:

Cheers!

In the latest edition of Mojo (music magazine), there is a CD called 'There is a light that never goes out', which is a compilation of Indietunes from 1982-87.

The Flatmates' song 'I could be in Heaven' is featured on it.

It's not a bad compilation at all - from recollection, it starts with the magnificent 'Sunshine Bathed in Golden Glow' by Felt. Also features Close Lobsters, Weather Prophets, Billy Bragg.

Ah - just found the full list online:

Felt – Sunlight Bathed the Golden Glow
Weather Prophets – Almost Prayed
Hurrah! – Sweet Sanity
Woodentops – Well Well Well
Close Lobsters – Nature Thing
Nightingales – Crafty Fag
Flatmates – I Could be in Heaven
Go-Betweens – Cattle and Cane
Billy Bragg – Levi Stubbs’ Tears
Martin Stephenson and the Daintees – Crocodile Cryer
Television Personalities – How I Learned to Love the ….. Bomb
La’s – Open Your Heart
Blue Aeroplanes – Action Painting
Dentists – Strawberries are Growing in My Garden (and it’s Wintertime)
Chesterfields – Completely and Utterly

the odd thing about that compilation is that the Close Lobsters track came out in 1989 - well after 87.

T'was nice to hear the Flatmates again -we now know what happened to Debbie - but what about Sarah Fletcher? The last time i heard about her i believe she was working in Tesco's - (that was late eighties) - did she ever wield her bass in anger ever again?

Sarah is alive and well, and although she has not picked up her bass in many years, it is still in her cupboard in case she ever needs it...
Cheers!

It annoys me that Last.fm 'corrects' Chesterf!elds as Chesterfields.

Anyway, this is a Flatmates thread. Must get that Cake record.

...have reformed, somewhat out of the blue. I can't find much information out there. Who's in the line-up now?

Oh yeah, I love The Flatmates.

We're a bit disorganised (in a lovable indiepop way, obv.), but we will decide what to do about our online presence soon.

The http://www.theflatmates.com site is not currently being updated.

Best place at the moment is https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Flat ... 1926357511

Enjoyed reading that!

Really looking forward to seeing them play.

I think that 'I Could be In Heaven' was played when I was at Scared to Dance last weekend. It was a lot of fun to dance to :)
