Bach
Bach-ophile Douglas Adams:
"Mozart tells us what it's like to be human, Beethoven tells us what it's like to be Beethoven and Bach tells us what it's like to be the universe."
He also said:
"Some people say that the mathematical complexity of Bach renders it unemotional. I think the opposite is true. As I listen to the interplay of parts in a piece of Bach polyphony, each individual strand of music gathers hold of a different feeling in my mind, and takes them on simultaneous interweaving roller-coasters of emotion. One part may be quietly singing to itself, another is on an exhilarating rampage, another is sobbing in the corner, another dancing. Arguments break out, laughter, rage. Peace is restored. The parts can be utterly different, yet all belong indivisibly together. It's as emotionally complex as a family."
....Are the Bach influences in The Bobby McGee's music a little too obvious?

Re: Bach
Never heard of the Bobby McGees, but I am a big fan of Bach and have never found him unemotional or dull.
Some of his music is simply sublime, and has stood the test of time for hundreds of years. I believe it will last a few hundred more too.
All my love,
Kate

Re: Bach
ok, well, jimmy from the bobby mcgees posts on this board and has posted in this thread and I'd say it's probably not good form to lay the verbal smackdown (however mild) on somebody's band who's a member of this forum as we try to keep things pretty easygoing between board members wherever possible (the bobby mcgees are pretty well regarded here, that's not to say you have to like them but somebody may want to defend them against charges that they 'blow' and may have a pop at you and it'll all get messy)
however jimmy may agree that they do blow
I don't know what we do in that event
ask an admin?

Re: Bach
No worries, it's all a matter of preference and whatever evokes emotion within oneself when it comes to music/art/life... I guess? Either way, I'll simmer down M8.

Re: Bach
The Bobby McGees blow
...jeez...you can't say that in public...Jimmy is a violent psychopath cage fighter known for ripping the arms off of teenagers, for fun.
He famously once beat the crap out of a squadie at The Tube Bar in Leicester just for telling Eleanor that the bobby mcgees music was "Rediculous"....he then hunted the guy down the next day to appologise after he realised that the music was, infact "rediculous"....that's how the phrase "tweecore" came about.

Re: Bach
[quite an old topic]
The more I listen to Bach music, the more I love it.
Erbarme dich (St Matthew Passion)
Harpsichord Concerto No.4 in A major, allegro
French Suite No. 3 in B minor, menuet
Orchestral Suite No.3, air
Cantata 140
These are a few of my favorite things
