oh my, sorry to chop up your post there, that's rude! but those bits I've stuck in bold (plus the rest of it but those bits in particular provided two sucker punches to my already dropped swinging like a pendulum do jaw) have me bouncing up and down like my arse is a space hopper

Wish I'd been at this - it sound great. I really want to listen to Weird Menace now, but I cannot find them on the internet. Am I being dim-witted?

Golden Grrrls are sounding good though. They have a MySpace and everything. I can work that.

Weird Menace are very new..I think I saw their first show maybe (supporting Let's Wrestle in Brighton in July). One of them is also in La La Vasquez and they're similarly raw but with an awesome SY-ish geetar sound going on.

Golden Grrrls are proper rad, despite the name. I got their tape and a compilation on Nightschool (which has some truly fucking awful hipster fucking arsewank on it, but has some gems too).
I am struck speechless by the nape of your neck.

Why are they writing the band names with spaces inbetween each letter?

I enjoyed the Limits before the LP came out, it was a time / place thing, they were different to a lot of other stuff floating round at the time (on a UK DIY level I mean).

The LP was a bit weak though.

Cos it makes people think of giant thrusting cocks? I have no idea, I would imagine so it's a bit easier to read or something.

great venue. needs aircon though. heard they're having money troubles already, which isn't good.

no that's not good. well they could put their prices up a bit.. at £3 for a gig they might be underselling themselves. they rent the room as a rehearsal studio too but i don't know how popular that is.
I thought they were getting the aircon sorted but it wasn't when I saw Bellies last week. that's bound to affect the rehearsability of the place too.

I read about Pussy Riot a couple of months ago, mentioned in dispatches, one of those names you see a couple of times and these were the unthinking conclusions I reached while relentlessly click clicking around the internet:

1) what an awful name
2) they are Russian, probably therefore not very good
3) click on

So I managed to be a bit sniffy and superior verging on racist, I was certainly ignorant, perhaps it doesn't pay to be honest, perhaps I should shovel on the bullshit about how I knew from the get go that this was the band, blah blah blah, but I didn't so there you go

I thought 'I can probably ignore this'

And the truth is, of course, I still can but events took a turn for the disturbing in February and I finally got it into my thick skull that Pussy Riot matter in a way that arguably, here in 2012, Felt certainly don't (to pluck one example at random... and I love Felt)

Image

Pussy Riot aren't- as I wrongly surmised- a snotty punk band with a mildly provocative name (I've subsequently learned that Pussy Riot is a play on the Russian word for 'patriot') they are a feminist punk rock collective who play guerilla gigs (usually on the streets of Moscow or in public spaces to anyone in earshot) and who have by virtue of being politically active, uncompromising and not a little bit impudent pissed off the Russian authorities (the arrest took place follwoing an incident when members of Pussy Riot entered a church and performed a song before 'praying' to the 'Holy Mother, Blessed Virgin' for Putin to be chased out of Russia) and now three women suspected of being members of Pussy Riot face 7 years in prison for the act of 'hooliganism'
Two of the musicians remain in custody, where they have begun a hunger strike. Nadezhda Tolokonnikova and Maria Alyokhin are protesting against the conditions of their arrest, which will see them kept behind bars until a late April hearing. They both have young children: Tolokonnikova has a four-year-old son and Alyokhin's daughter is five. The women "will starve in jail until they are returned to their children", Pussy Riot explained on their website.

I made the same assumptions, Andy (though I imagined them being a leather-clad metal band). I'm gonna check out those linkies at home.

You might think they'd want to wrap up warm in the snow, though, eh?
