I seem to remember reading a tour diary type piece in Select, where Ray said he got that guitar simply because it was the least-cool guitar ever.

http://www.teenagefanclub.com/phpBB3/vi ... al#p555116
Raymond: The Epiphone Casino is my favourite guitar, and I think the other guys like it too. It's the one guitar that always goes to the studio with us and we've used it on all our records. I don't use it live much now because I'm worried it might get lost or damaged. It was made in Kalamazoo in 1962 so at least something in the band is older than me. I bought the Brian May guitar after me and Norman tried it in a shop in New York for a laugh, and I was surprised that it was really nice and I suppose I liked the delicious uncoolness of it. However, after seeing the man himself playing God Save The Queen (the anthem, not the Pistols song) on it on top of Buckingham Palace for the Jubilee celebrations I thought - "get that guitar to fuck!” So, if anyone wants to buy it.........

Thanks for posting this Andy - it's right up my street. I've now got tickets to see Lightships play in Glasgow in early May. Very excited about it!

a fog of ideas wrote:'the king' is probably the most 'difficult' album (containing as it does mostly instrumentals, pink floyd and madonna covers) and, arguably, the least essential for a 'first-time buyer'
I bought this in a charity shop today. It's pretty wild! There's something weirdly infectious about the sound of a young Teenage Fanclub flailing around noisily in the studio though.

it's fun When Yr In The Mood

the Madonna cover is the worst thing on it by miles; i bloody love the Fannies and their covers but that one doesn't quite do the job somehow

I'm rather excited too! I read somewhere they're playing 50/50 Joe and Norman's songs, and covering back catalogue.

I'm sure they'll play this and I will weep like a big girl's blouse for the happy-saddest time it evokes for me.

I was recently turned onto Snowgoose, a new-ish band featuring Ray McGinley. Debut LP came out last year, sounds pretty nice.
