wintergreen

Post by mae » Mon Jun 23, 2008 12:36 pm

i have some things to say about wintergreen and i need a thread to put them in.

first thing: after years in the making (almost literally, i think alec and i started this right after the last one in summer 2006) the new wintergreen video is finally ready to be seen. i hope you like it, it's for simple mechanics.

other thing: if you haven't heard the lovely new songs already you should have a listen on their myspace. http://www.myspace.com/wintergreenband

also: i bought wintergreen a present! i can't be bothered to post it though. sorry!

I reckon it's managementspeak. Andy's forever using managementspeak at rehearsals...

ooh, he'll have you for that. going forward.

david, andy's informed me that the intention was to write lyrics using maths terms that also have everyday meanings. i quote "it's either a lighthearted parody of the misappropriation of scientific terms without any regard to their technical meaning, or me and alec sitting down thinking it would be quite fun to make a song out of maths".

this is making us sound so boring. we're not, people, listen to the songs!

That video is fantastic. You guys should play gigs more often. You were really great at the Spiral Scratch gig w/Liechtenstein last year. I like the way you experiment with instruments and new sounds. Andy's voice is really unique and your drummer is amazing!
I slice the surface here beside you/Lungs filled liquid yell I love you/Sound moves further underwater
Deep and dark my submarine bells groan in greens and grey/Mine would chime a thousand times/To make you feel okay..

Thanks. I think we should too. The official line is that recording (with a view to completing an album) is taking precedence over gigs, but we might be up to speed again soon with live stuff as we've got a campaign of rehearsals on. I get very rusty when we don't practise (though in all honesty I doubt I was ever "amazing"), so I'd quite like to keep the momentum going for a couple more gigs really, but there's other stuff taking up time at the moment...

I may be terribly out of step with the pop goss but will there be an album anytime soon? the two singles are clear indicators that wintergreen are possessed of wayward, seductive pop chops the likes of which are all too rare (I'm blowing smoke up your collective arses) and an album would be the flipping bees knees, so...

COME ON!

there will be an album, but right now we're busy building a studio to record that album in! the studio will hopefully get finished this month (i hope it's acceptable that i'll be plugging it on anorak at some point, we'll need to get other bands to use it or we won't be able to pay rent), so we'll get started soon. most of the songs are written, we just need to record them in a way we're all happy with. which might, admittedly, take a while. and then there's the small issue of finding someone who likes it enough to release it, of course. but yes! album! sometime this year!
thanks for asking, it's nice to know we haven't been completely forgotten yet :)

I'm not sure we can guarantee that the album will be full of pop classics, mind. There might be a little in the way of electronical experimentation as well. Or something. There are a few tracks earmarked for it though, aren't there? And they're mostly done, aren't they? So it's maybe a third finished... That's the impression I get anyway, although I'm only the drummer and I don't understand the more subtle nuances of music production.

The Rule of Small Things is finally available on vinyl and digital from https://wintergreen.greedbag.com/ (and iTunes/emusic/amazon and probably some things I've never heard of)
Listen to it here https://play.spotify.com/album/0WjmZijdUqkqNn0hwQxmkK
We'll be returning to indietracks this summer and will hopefully play some other shows before that.

Sorry it's taken so long.

I'm so glad that wintergreen are still alive and well. Or again alive and well.
