Animal Collective

I think I'm in love with Strawberry Jam, which in this instance isn't rudity. In a year of great avant-psych-pop malarkey, this is up there. Appalling cover though.

I haven't quite decided how I feel about it yet.

Argh!

They were on Conan O'Brien last night, and I forgot to watch/ask my brother to record it. Maybe it'll show up on YouTube.

The Purple Bottle is just one of the greatest, most perfect, prettiest songs in the whole world. I don't think anyone's ever written a song that better describes that feeling of being all perfectly infatuated in love with someone, all the woooing and the crushing and the excitement and the "sometimes i'm naked and thank god sometimes you're naked well hello....." (I may have misquoted there a little, but I don't think I have).

And that lyric there in that signature of Ralph Wiggum's is maybe my favorite lyric ever.

The Purple Bottle has an amazing drum beat at the intro

I LOVE Cuckoo Cuckoo from Strawberry Jam. It's so rousing!

And the rest of the album's not half bad either. Even #1, which I didn't really like at first, has grown on me a lot. I think I actually prefer it to Panda Bear's 'Person Pitch' now, which I didn't think would be the case when I first listened to it.

The Water Curses EP is so wonderful.. it's like intimate, intense, psychedelia. Really affecting. Beautiful stuff, streets ahead of the copyists.

The raft of Animal Collective-lite bands who people will compare but tell you that 'they aren't as full on' or they're 'like a restrained version of'. People like Yeasayer I guess. And to some degree El Guincho (sp?) although I've only heard a few songs. I fully accept than my view may be totally biased and unfair to the bands mentioned but on other boards I'm on it seems almost a daily occurrence that someone recommends something to me or mentions it in the same breath as AC and you flick up the myspace and it sounds like Miracle Fortress or Vampire Weekend.

I bought Sung Tongs based on how much I absolutely loved 'Leaf House' and 'Who Could Win A Rabbit?'. The rest of the album bored me so much that I sold it after trying repeatedly to like it.

I still haven't heard anything since as good as those two.

You should hear (if you haven't) 'The Purple Bottle', 'Grass' and 'Have You Seen The Words?' off of 'Feels'

and (preferably in sequence) 'Chores', 'For Reverend Green' and 'Fireworks' off 'Strawberry Jam'.

'The Purple Bottle' is just amazing, cute, a heartfelt ode to infatuation and love. 'For Reverend Green' reminds me of Nirvana. I love 'Sung Tongs' but the album does kind of change pace. If you don't like the one chord 'Kids On Holiday' then you're not going to love love it.

'Strawberry Jam' is easily my favourite AC, and I was a big fan of them beforehand.

I heard the new track on 6music, and thought it sounded a bit like a strawberry jam knockoff. Don't get me wrong, I think strawberry Jam's ace, but from my brief listening it just sounded a bit samey.
Toot toot.

I've partaken of the Water Curses torrent that's floating about. I couldn't help it. Though I will still be buying the EP when it's out properly. Anyway, my first reaction is that 'Street Flash' and 'Seal Eyeing' are so beautiful it hurts. The other two songs are good too. I'm looking forward to spending lots of quality listening time with this EP this summer.

I don't know what this says about me, but every time Panda and/or Avey do those screams it absolutely delights me.

Also, I can't get enough of the Water Curses EP at the moment. Particularly the title track.

Wow, I listened to Feels this morning for the first time since seeing AC at ATP and Primavera, and it's gone from sounding pretty good to sounding fantastic. It suddenly all makes sense.
