I've decided to have a Stump listening day after finding finding this on youtube:

Who else loves Stump?

I quite like them, I think, but I'd be lying if I said I'd immersed myself in that anthology I bought.

'Buffalo' has found its way onto my Christmas CD, which I anticipate most of the listeners will find quite upsetting. They're easily upset

And there was me thinking Stump were an indiepop band, being on c86 and all that.

:D

I guess I will never fully get genres and all that. That kinda makes me happy.

I was torn! They sort of stick out from the C86 tape a bit, don't they?

They do! But I'd still call them indie pop. I like wide definitions that can take lots of bands! But either way - I think they're ace.

I give it to people instead of a Christmas card. A lot of my friends do it. Well, some of them. I don't give one to everyone because the contents may well offend.

Previous efforts have included the Nolans and Girls Aloud

They were a fantastic live band. I remember being mesmerised watching them...particularly the guitarist - how did he get those sounds?!

Stump have an official Facebook page up and have announced Cherry Red will be releasing an early (pre-Fierce Pancake) recordings compilation
Cherry Red Records will be releasing a compilation of Stump's early recordings sometime soon - details TBC. Entitled Does The Fish Have Chips?, the CD will boast all of the band's pre-Ensign recordings, from the Mud On A Colon EP on Ron Johnson to the Quirk Out album, their first John Peel session and sundry other rarities
The previous Fierce Pancake plus anthology that came out on Sanctuary is now out of print

Personally I'm delighted

Also, any excuse...

Torn between feelings of wanting them to play one last gig and thinking it would be the worst thing ever.

I think I should have all these tracks, but I'm hoping there's some nice sleevenotes or something.

Very sad to hear about Mick yesterday. One of Irish music's true one-offs. We'll never find out if the fish had chips now. Rest in peace you fucking legend.
