I really should have posted this sooner...

We're having a Camera Obscura special at Scared To Dance this Friday. We're going to be playing songs throughout the night from their four studio albums! Plus we'll be welcoming Helen and Bob from Shrag on the one's and two's. Free entry before 10pm and mixtapes on the door.

I could watch this person’s youtube channel all day every day ...and have been. That Festival Internacional de Benicassim 2003 footage is great. Everyone looks so young – the boys all have hair and the girls look like completely different people.

That Hydro Connect Session 2008 version of “Some Guys Have All The Luck” is also great Does anyone know if they released that?

That is truly wonderful. John! Gav in kilt. Kenny in sport sandals. Ladies with pixie cuts. Thank you for posting. It's also just sent me into a fit of nostalgia for 2003-04. Good days.

I wonder where/how they got all that footage. Their youtube profile says that they’re in the United States. They haven’t responded to my PM... I don’t blame them.

It’s great to be able to see live footage of John on stage. While the others have their heads stuck in their instruments concentrating hard on what they’re playing, John seems to have a bit more time to... well, wander around, whack a drum, do a few handclaps, have a cigarette etc. Those little bits that he does do are quite magic though and I reckon they add so much to the songs.

I think about what I was doing back in 2003 and how much I would’ve loved to have been there in the audience at FIB 2003 witnessing this performance.

On a slightly different note here’s one Peruvian fans tribute to Carey Lander. I’m not sure whether I should’ve smiled so much during this - what I do know is that there’s a great frock at 2:34.

I like this one because I can see miss deepfreeze and lynsosaurus up there a'clappin on the right of the stage.

side note regarding previous posts in this thread: I don't think Camera Obscura have quite aged that much since 2003, have they? Geesh! It's hardly like seeing them these past four or five years was like seeing a Stones reunion tour.

You're right, that is a great frock! Thanks for the reminder to use the word frock more often. I usually take the easy option and say 'dress' but frock is more exciting...

Can't work out whether the bloke is more channelling Stephin Merritt or Calvin Johnson.

I think, to these ears, there's more some jojo richman-type inflections there

I really rather liked that

I don't know if it's just the Tracyanne Campbell factor making me say this but that was great! And the EP has a pretty swoon-worthy list of indie pop girl (and Darren Hayman) guests. Want.

And I agree, despite the fact there's a slight C Is The Heavenly Option vibe to the song, he's mainly channeling Jonathan Richman.

I've been playing the new Butcher Boy album on my computer quite a lot and every time it finishes the first Camera Obscura album comes on. Usually when this sort of thing happens I maybe let it run for a while before choosing something else but in this case I pretty much always play the whole album. Happy New Year is one of my favourite songs of theirs and the quality barely dips from there. After that comes the Eighties fan EP and that is one lovely collection of songs. They have an incredible number of great b-sides in fact.

Any word of new material? Just thinking it's coming up to three and a half years since My Maudlin Career and there's been no recent hints on their social media outlets.

I think they've certainly been rehearsing new stuff quite recently. I would imagine an album will be coming next year.

'Return To Send Her' remains one of my absolute favourite Camera Obscura songs. 'Let's Go Bowling' is utter beauty too. It seems unfair to pick just those two out though. They aren't the type of band I ever imagine stooping to release a b-sides album but they could easily pack a quality double disc one from their back catalogue.

I've been keeping an eye on their twitter. I know they've been rehearsing new material but there doesn't seem to be any sign of them recording stuff at the moment. I can't imagine a new album being out by early next year so my best guess would be next summer.

Camera Obscura b-sides? I love 'Return To Send Her', it's probably their best b-side. Also 'Lemon Juice and Papercuts' and 'Marathon Not a Sprint'.

Anyone know about a new single? I see a single is being given away free to the first 150 that attend the "Sonic Flower Groove" Club night in Leicester on 25th January - as its an Elefant night will that be an old single - or new stuff?

It says "new Camera Obscura single" in the bumf on the Ents 24 thingy.

Man, there's SO MUCH stuff happening on that weekend!
I am struck speechless by the nape of your neck.
