They were a lot livelier at the last Glasgow show than I've probably ever seen them (Carey especially seems to have grown in confidence) but maybe that was down to having a smallish hometown crowd.
They're just shy really!

Their "schtick" is being wonderful.
Think Traceyanne said on stage they'd been together for 17 years. Is that right? That's pretty amazing if it is.

kinell

i'm not slagging them off. just saying that from what i've witnessed, and frequently heard from bigger fans than i, they're not exactly at pains to come across as thrilled to be onstage

if that's their thing, or just the way they are, then whatever. different strokes and all that. not having a go, like, or trying to make a bigger point. jus' sayin'

Anyone notice that there are different bonus tracks depending where you shop for a digital version of the album? I'd rather not download them if they are going to be b-sides on an upcoming single. Is there a single in the pipeline?

Ohh, I didn't know there was bonus tracks of any kind. Absolutely loving the album. I'd place it in 2nd place after the untouchable Let's Get Out Of This Country. I was listening to the first 2 albums during the week there and the contrast is amazing. They've gone from a pleasant but unremarkable B&S soundalike to one of the greatest pop bands on the planet.

Yes, I noticed after I bought it in the store that on itunes there was a bonus track "Making Money" while on Amazon it is "Swallows"
And for some reason the itunes track costs 30 cents more than the Amazon one?!

John’s performances/contributions in that Spanish television footage make me smile. He had a great voice. It makes me wonder what subsequent Camera Obscura albums would’ve been like had he stuck with the band.

What happened to John? Obviously he disappeared after Underachievers... but did he go on to be part of any other band or bands? Is he still wandering around Glasgow today?

Found an old Pitchfork interview which I thought might shed some light. Alas...

"Pitchfork: John left the band after Underachievers, Please Try Harder. Can you talk about why he did?

TC: No."

John is symbolically represented by a shopping trolley in this new, rather uninspiring video

Looks like both will be on the upcoming double 7" out Oct. 8.
Tracklist:
1A Break It To You Gently
1B Making Money
2A Do It Again
2B Swallows

This made me smile. I can't decide whether I'm disappointed the musical doesn't really exist, or relieved because it couldn't possibly come up to expectations.

New Camera Obscura single for the RSD next month, comprising of four session versions (already up on YouTube for months, I believe) of 'Desire Lines' tracks. Can't say I'm feeling rich enough myself, but I'm sure there's worse things to spend a tenner (a tenner!) on. Gigs in May as well.
