I agree its a great song, not sure i get why its so clearly inspired by the Lemonheads though.

Me neither, i'm afraid.

It's certainly very good though.

I tried to write a song that sounded like the Lemonheads a while ago, I'm not sure how successful I was. Nothing really sounds like the Lemonheads without Evan's sexy drawl. Here it is, anyway.

All of These Things Broke (I didn't write the lyrics)

Excellent! I shall listen later!

As for your Lemonheads theory: Smudge do, a bit. (sometimes a lot).

Whenever I try to write songs they always seem to come out a bit Lemonheadsy/Smudgey/Go-Betweensy. "The songs I write in the middle of the night always sound like Grant McLennan..."

Ah well, easy come, easy go.

Hard to explain maybe. It's I feeling I get, the same feeling I get when I listen to the Lemonheads. I can't hear that song without imagine Evan singing it. A duet version would be amazing!! The fact that I know Hello Saferide/Annika Norlin is a huge Lemonheads fan and that she considers "the Outdoor Type" to have some of the best lyrics ever might affect my judgement though... but I do think that this song is where I can hear that inspiration the most. I even feel that the breakdown has typical sad Evan-chords, but now I might be going too far!

who wants to talk about The Lemonheads again?

i do because i'm going to see them tonight

they're playing It's A Shame ABout Ray in its entirety, and then (i hope) some hits afterwards

personally i'd rather they did Come On Feel... as that's my favourite album of theirs (Down About It! It's About Time! and so on and soforth) but it's a close call

i like the other records a lot too. Car Button Cloth and Lovey feature some of my absolute favourites

anyway, i know tompony said he saw them on this tour and they were shit, but has anyone else?

Hooray, Come On Feel is my favourite, too. It'd be pretty weird played in full though, two versions of the same song (one based around the vocals of a dead man) and The Jello Fund? Weird but AMAZING, obviously.

From the sounds of write-ups over on the evandando.co.uk forums, the other dates of the tour have been a lot better so I wouldn't be too worried if I were you! Expect both OTHER HITS and also SOME ODD SELECTIONS.

Have you got the new (recorded in 1994) Hotel Sessions album? I haven't yet, but it's only a matter of time...

umm... i've been sent a stream for review. it's 'officially' not out til january, but i've seen it in shops and on amazon, so who knows

not listened yet but from what i've picked up it's all 4-track demos for Come On Feel and some other bits, isn't it? loads of tape hiss and evan commenting on the songs as he goes on. sounds brilliant to me! there's a two-disc best of due out in january as well, and that semi-mythical tenth studio record

somehow i've still not heard Varshons yet, although i gather it wasn't very good

hits? hooray! odd choices? ooh. last time i saw them (five years ago) he played loads of hits, a handful of new songs and a load of covers, including Divan by Smudge and a Gram Parsons song that i think he said was unreleased, or something. dead good anyway

He played Divan in Nottingham too. I love that song! I guess odd choices are actually quite commonplace at Evan / Lemonheads gigs so they're not actually odd choices, really. The setlists for other dates on the tour seem quite a lot longer, I gather the Nottingham one was abbreviated because he got his guitar strap caught on the microphone or somebody looked at him funny or something.

I think Hotel Sessions sounds rather lovely too. It has a couple of unreleased songs on it.

Do not listen to Varshons, pretend it never happened, you will be better off for it, it is almost completely without merit!

me too! i went to see Smudge at a sparsely-attended afternoon show last year, and they announced a requests section. i blurted out Don't Want To Be Grant McLennan rather too quickly, which they duly played (nice folks). later on Adam unexpectedly marched over to me and handed me the set list (lovely folks!). i realised they'd played my request instead of Divan. GAH!

I also went to the Nottingham show and I think I enjoyed it marginally more than Tom did. Evan could have done with being a bit less grumpy though.

I second the advice not to listen to Varshons. I've listened to it for you, so you don't have to...

Tom, they were selling the Hotel Sessions thing on the merch stand. I'd meant to tell you this once I'd got back downstairs from having a look but somehow the information left my head. Sorry! I kind of wish I'd bought it now.

No worries, I'll pick it up online at some point. I'm not sure why I didn't go to look at the merch stand, I guess I didn't realise they would have anything new... plus it was up some stairs...

I did enjoy most of it but felt really uncomfortable at times with the weird sort of "these guys are not enjoying this gig!" feeling that seemed to leak from the stage, and the sound was pretty terrible when the whole band were playing.

Oh, and if you have the same support lady as was in Nottingham, you're in for a treat. She was lovely. You can listen to her music on her facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Meredith- ... 8091127385

Yes! Definitely. She's very 90s noisy girl guitar sort of thing. The recordings has synth and drums on too, but live it's just her and the guitar. I chatted to her afterwards and she seemed rather overwhelmed by the whole Lemonheads tour thing.

ooh, that sounds good!

without having heard her, my brain has now decided she sounds like Lemuria (which would be good)

as is generally best, i'm trying to ignore it

i've never been to one of these 'play the whole album in order' shows before. saw at least two Blur tours where there were rumours that they'd play their (then) brand new albums in their entirety, in '97 and '99, but on both occasions they played Girls & Boys as the third song, so that didn't work out. i also saw Built To Spill's Perfect From Now On tour three years ago, on the one date where they didn't play that album, and the rumours of The Get Up Kids playing Something To Write Home About a coupla years ago proved unfounded too.

bets The Lemonheads jib off ...Ray and just play a selection of tracks off the Taang! albums instead

(actually that'd be ace. bring back Ben Deilly!)

Ha, maybe, that'd be pretty awesome. They did actually open with a non-Ray song, which was a little bit confusing. I don't know Lemuria, so I'm going to look that up when I get chance.

I'm going to see them next week.

Hope they are playing more than Shame About Ray given its only 30 minutes long !
