Joanna Gruesome

I know they're being mentioned on other threads, but this lot deserve their own one because they are just so good.
And young. So young, they make me feel so old. But they've definitely been growing up and listening to some great bands.

I think this might be my favourite.

I can't stop playing these songs at the moment and I hope they go down a storm at Indietracks.

Did I mention they make me feel so very old?

They're fucking astounding. 'Madison' is just the most exciting song I've heard for yonks and yonks, and the rest are pretty special too.

Also, I've not seen anyone play their guitars like that since 1990. Maybe I'm watching the wrong bands, though.

I'm gonna get to see them three times in three months over the summer, and I can't wait.

the kids are solid gold

I love 'em, all grace and bruises, slightly indolent, somewhat delinquent, but music that's so beautiful, so on fire... they make me feel like I used to feel, real shot in the arm stuff

I've been walking around with the demos off bandcamp on my portable listening device and the world is brighter and vivid and more brilliant for having joanna gruesome squalling away in my head

and it might not last, it might all go to piddle, but for now and hopefully to the end of the year at the very least this is brilliant and exciting and NOW!

They're great, I like them a lot!

Why are they in 'not indiepop' though? They're soooo indiepop.

they're ace, aren't they? I love the way sugarcrush starts out sounding like it's going to My Vitriol or something then explodes into those crunchy chords straight out of Rest Assured by the Lemonheads and then transforms again into fuzzy pop excellence.

they kind of remind me of Spraydog, I think

I thought we'd agreed years ago that indiepop is everything that I like. :)

Anyway, I can't believe no-one's mentioned that their name is completely ace.

It took me a disturbingly long time to work out what their name was all about.

Not as long as Nosferatu D2, mind you.

also we kind of switch female singers a lot (our permanent singer is in africa till autumn) - the girls we play with now are all scattered around the country so we can't always play with girl/boy vocals etc. dyu guys know any girls who live in the south and would be up for playing the occasional gig with us? chance we might need a girl to play indietracks with us, as i think our usual backup is playing with evans the death or something (although i think we have sorted someone)

should probably just start a separate thread for this...

If I put a dress and some make-up on can I sing with you at the gig you're playing for us in Nottingham on 5th July?

the music's good, but the name isn't (unless it's cleverer than just a riff on joanna newsome? in which case it's gone over my head.)

Yes! This also gives me an excuse for these ever-increasing mantits.

I'm off to New Look tomorrow for an outfit to die for.
