BOREDcore wrote:Eh, NME writers at the moment don't seem to have a massive breadth of Music Knowledge. I'm not doubting their passion and love for Music but they seem (from the majority of content at least) to be conservative in their choices (with the importance of a small c) obviously it'd be super lovely if NME were a lot more favorable about what is a really good record (the album and the single) but I think a lot of the kind of people I know who read NME religiously wouldn't necessarily dig what Joanna Gruesome are doing, but the fact they are there being introduced to a massive audience, is fantastic, not just for them (and deservedly so) but for Indie music in general.
how so? let's say I'm not necessarily going to dig the new tv programme on a tv channel I never look at or pay attention to and I read in 'what's on tv' magazine that said programme is shit and not worth bothering with... I'm clearly not going to watch it, even less so now, I'll just see 'new tv programme = shit', my expectations are confirmed, move on

so I don't get your logic that that review of the single in the NME does JG and 'indie music in general' any favours at all or is, as you put it, fantastic

how does that work exactly? what am I missing?

and I disagree that it would be 'super lovely' if the NME were more favourable toward the record because the NME is a complete load of fucking cock

I agree with Andy completely and the lack of a 'like' button means I have to type really quickly in to a tiny box as I'm at work.

I appreciate that it shouldn't really come down to something as shallow as this but I have complete hair envy for joanna gruesome right now... clearly they have so much more of it than I do, but that's not the sole reason... lan's do at the moment, that's a work of genius

come on, people, I can't be alone here

I'm not being weird, come on, admit it, that's a 'do to reckon with

It's a 'do' to make a chubby old grey-ster feel that maybe time hasn't been so kind after all.
It's a 'do' NOT to be trifled with.

It's exactly that. Grown back over the last 3 months.

it's more than that, trev, I'm not sure what the exact term is

'pixie cut' makes my mouth fill with vomit, I'd say it's very jean seberg in 'a bout de souffle' but a jean seberg that's just given jean-paul belmondo a fat lip and kicked jean-luc godard in the petit-beurres

ultimately I wish I had owen or dave's hair though

Presume this means the rescheduled dates aren't happening, then (and yes, of course they've missed out the east Midlands): http://www.thisisfakediy.co.uk/articles ... edy-ortiz/

Nah, I would presume it means the rescheduled dates aren't happening between 13th and 20th of February.

I suspect there will be many Jo Gru gigs throughout the country next year and I find it unlikely that they won't play Nottingham, Cardiff and Bristol (and anywhere else they had to pull out of) at some point.

I'm tempted to bet you a fiver they don't or £2.50 that if they do it'll be at rock city or somewhere like that

You're categorically not alone on this one!

Saw Lan's new(isn) hairdo at their gig on Saturday, and really like it - but then again, I thought she looked fabulous with her hair shaved off at the Oddbox gig at the Victoria - and also great when it was blonde a couple of years ago - and looked good dyed blue when she was with Evans the Death at Indietracks.I heard some 'Karen O' comments about her haircut at the gig (where they were fabulous).

They're getting a lot of airplay at 6music, aren't they?

I found this wee clip of them on youtube, which I think is great - enjoyed seeing them playing their songs in the studio. Also you can see Lan's haircut there..

http://www.bust.com/rock-dreams-joanna- ... -twee.html
The whole “twee” thing has sort of morphed into this weird label that’s basically lost all meaning now. We’re all really against this trend of equating indie-pop with twee, which seems to be born out of nothing but laziness. It seems as though as soon as there’s an indie-pop band that has a female vocalist the word twee is applied so quickly without any hesitation, and there’s definitely some sexism there. As if female vocals necessarily equate a cutesy kind of fragility. People use the word twee to write things off, and twee seems to be mostly reserved for women. I’m not a fan of that at all.

RE 'Sugarcrush' - has there ever been a more glorious use of the words 'do do do do, do do, do-do-do, do'? I think not.

Agree it's a great do do do do. Another recent do do do do bit in a song that I really like is Clearhead by Sisters

Hadn't heard it before but it is a great do-do-do bit. Not so sure about the rest of the song, which features a bit too much of the 'shimmery guitar' sound characteristic of a lot of dodgy indie for me. I guess I'm a hard taskmaster.
