You know, I thought MY ENTIRE LIFE that I didn't really like Felt. But something just clicked about a fortnight ago. Now I can't get enough really. Train Above The City though, what on earth was that about? I guess when they dedicated themselves to the task of putting out 10 albums in 10 years, the quality control slipped a bit there.

Yeah I can't wait for the documentary, will definitely make the trip down to London for that.

Ha I think Lawrence has since said that is the one album that doesn't quite sit right in the catalogue. But even if it doesn't quite match the rest in terms of material, it certainly does in Felt eccentricity.

Really want to go to this too. I'm trying to ascertain if there will be any kind of Q&A at any of the screenings but no-one seems to know. It's a bit of a bugger really, what with tickets not going on sale for another fortnight and any special screenings/ after-show malarkeys not announced, it's going to be quite risky buying cheap train tickets in advance. I'm going to have to presume that a) anything Q&A-ish would more than likely happen on the Saturday night premiere and b) there'll be tickets left for non-BFI members.

There nearly always is some sort of Q&A at festival screenings, though may just be the director. When I saw the screening of the Magnetic Fields film last year Merrit was there. Being awkward.

Will this ever see the day on DVD for us unlucky people on the other side of the channel who can't just hop over to go and see it ?
I'm still waiting for the Dolly Mixture DVD too (although I luckily got to see it thanks to the lovely London popfest people).

Yeah, but at which of the three screenings? Therein lies the rub.

details of Glasgow screening...

Monorail Film Club at the Glasgow Film Theatre

Lawrence Of Belgravia / Take Three Girls: The Dolly Mixture Story

Sunday 4 December (18.30)

Birmingham-born 'almost' pop star, Lawrence, leader of the revered Felt, and subsequently Denim and Go-Kart Mozart, always seemed like someone who had invented himself. Extremely image conscious and touched by genius, he created precious, careful music that has become more and more influential through time. Paul Kelly's intimate, smart doc portrait picks up his story between Go-Kart Mozart albums, where we find him slightly frayed but optimistic that his desired world of limousines and supermodels is still within grasp.

The screening will be preceded by Kelly's earlier documentary on the fabulous, pioneering Dolly Mixture (40 mins). It tells the story of the 1970s / 80s female pop group who despite the best efforts of supporters like Bob Stanley of Saint Etienne seemed almost to have disappeared off the map. Now, after a sterling reissue programme and this film, the group's place has been rightfully restored and we can enjoy them as the missing link between 1960s girl group pop, Orange Juice and the 1990s riot grrl scene.

The screening will be introduced by director, Paul Kelly. After the films, Stuart Murdoch of Belle & Sebastian will host a Q&A with Lawrence and Paul Kelly.

All tickets £9

I saw this, should be interesting. On an earlier press release, I swear there was a picture of the vinyl where they had used Lawrence's last name and spelt it wrong! Heyward.

Yes! I got my ticket. Did you, Christian? Our friend Anders happens to be in town from Berlin too so it's going to be a happening event.

(No Maurice Deebank though, surely. :-( )
