this album is really great. and it finishes really quickly so you have a chance to listen to it again.

t-shirt weather are probably the most hardcore band i know, they came to the turf tavern on a weeknight. respect.
When the people are being beaten with a stick, they are not much happier if it is called 'the People's Stick.'

OI, Anorak.

We've got a new split just announced, and you can stream a track here http://www.punknews.org/bands/tshirtweather if you so wish. I'm really quite proud of it, and the guitar amp was so so small you wouldn't believe.

Sorry for 'double posting'. I believe it's against net etiquette.

Fuck net etiquette Tom. You're in a band and should be railing against clique shite like that. How are any new bands suppposed to get heard if they don't promote themselves on indie forums etc? Tired of being nice - bollacks to the smart arses. PROMOTE PROMOTE PROMOTE!

I'm no marketing guru, but it strikes me that nice is a much better promotional technique than stroppy.

Any road, the new T-Shirt Weather track is ace.

Which ever way grabs attention. Loads of stroppy bands are successful. Thanks and bye. X

I don't want to polute the T-shirt Weather thread too much, but if there'd be an actual need for being stroppy to become 'successful' (in what way?), why bother? Being an asshole (not saying you are!) has never really seemed like a great idea to me, no matter which circumstances. A succesful asshole can't actually be too pleased with himself. Am I naive? I just don't believe it.

If you actually think you could be huge, some attitude to begin with, and being stroppy once you're huge probably won't harm your career too much. And sure, being assertive and not too modest could help in some ways. But as long as your playing field is, and most likely will stay, the DIY scene, you're not going to get very far without making friends. So there's that. No need to try to be DIY's Oasis, or whatever, because it just doesn't add up.

T-shirt Weather don't have to worry about any of this. They're ace and make ace music.

Hi Rith. That comment was meant to be extremely tongue in cheek. I can understand why it was misinterpreted though. I am quite a humble soul in reality and very much a realist. Nice to meet you.

Thanks for the kind comments guys.

I know you were taking the mickey, but promotion is somewhat of a bugbear with me and it is something it slightly pains me to have to go through. Or, 'have' is a stupid word - I don't have to do any of this.

I really don't like promoting my band. I love any (positive) attention we get and I love getting to share stuff with people because its stuff I'm proud of and the idea of other people enjoying something I've produced makes me really happy. Also, I love the opportunity to play shows and meet people and to do these things does require me to push things at people. It feels embarrassing but it comes out of necessity. If I didn't think there were people who used this forum who might enjoy the music I certainly wouldn't roll into town and try and recruit them.

'Promotional' aspects that surround music scenes feel really pretentious. In the strictest sense. We're largely appealing to people we know personally or are a few degrees of separation from - let's be under no illusion. How then, dare we do things like 'exclusive streams' or even dare to charge for music, given that it's basically a angradised hobby and we're none of us expecting to make a living from it. I'm not sure, and it's something I do struggle to get to grips with. Nobody asked us to do this, so why go through all the stupid veiled pretense with which we surround musicians? I suppose it's because, to a degree, the notion of building hype and so on, serves to potentially widen the net of people who might enjoy the music. That, honestly, is the intention. It guts me to come across as pushy or to presume the right to force the things I do onto people, but it's done with the best intentions at heart.

That wasn't especially erudite.

THE SONG'S GOT A SAX GUYS.

Is this not the T-Shirt Weather Thread? I don't see why this is even anywhere near an issue.

Nobody minds double-posting, and nobody minds contributing members promoting themselves. I feel that's been established.

A well seasoned greeting to you. Put some cranberry sauce on your greeting, and some gravy.

T-Shirt Weather have a christmas single online atm and you can make a charitable £1 donation if you fancy downloading it. It's called 'Fairytale of Neville's Cross' and it's got a piano at the start and all sorts.
