Yesterday I was pointed to Whatevers (not the Leeds based indiepop band called The Whatevers, just Whatevers) and I love them to bits :-). It's the second time I've been told about them but the previous time I thought they meant the other band so I didn't check them out.

Their shortest song is eight seconds long and they only have one song longer than a minute and a half. This is the closest you can come to an objective measure of quality in pop music.

Here they are: https://whateversss.bandcamp.com/

Listening to Whatevers made me think about Auckland band The Coolies. They haven't really been mentioned around here. I'm not sure what happened to them but they have a few things on youtube, including this,

It says that was recorded on 9 November 2002 at the Pinnacle Club. You can see the building that club was in at 24 St Benedict's Street in Newton. It's quite striking and seems to have been a Masonic Hall at some point.

That's really nice.

I am pretty excited about this Trementina track, from an album released earlier this month in all the usual physical formats. While their back catalog on bandcamp is quite shoegazy, this new track is more straightforward, mildly-danceable electropop with just a little gaziness lapping at its shores around the halfway point. Don't yet know what the rest of the album's like!

Kind of digging the new Boosegumps ep. Cute DIY bedroom synthpop from Philly.

A friend of mine is in this band and I think they make lovely songs.

Edit: Goddamnit. I can't get the bandcamp embed to work again. I thought I had this down. Oh well, here's a link.

RVG from melbourne. classic indie with shades of melodrama. feels like everyone in this band is on top of their game. i'd love to see them live.

they self-released 200 copies of their lp and i really hope it gets re-pressed or reissued.
