Re: The Orchids
Ha! It was 'Yawn' that was playing. Well, about 5 seconds of it. I've had actual yawns that lasted longer.

Re: The Orchids
This is the best thing that's ever happened on Anorak.
The first five seconds of 'Yawn' is an excerpt from a Greek Orthodox liturgy. A massive turn-on.

Re: The Orchids
It wasn't the first 5 seconds of Yawn that sountracked this momentous occasion. It was a little bit in the middle. I spent the first couple of minutes of it thinking 'YES! This is it! This is it!' Then came the fateful five seconds and the rest of the song soundtracked my whimpering apologies. And then my snoring.crystalball wrote:This is the best thing that's ever happened on Anorak.

Any offers, ladies?

Brilliant! That made me actualy really LOL:)
Not at your performance....Honestly. But a great story. Greek Orthodox Liturgy? Is that normal foreplay?

Re: The Orchids
Hello all,
Just a wee update to let you know about our new single, a brand new version of "The Way That You Move":
"The kids have demanded it and who are we to disagree with the long awaited return to 7" vinyl for The Orchids. This is the band's first outing on 7" vinyl since the Thaumaturgy single on Sarah Records in 1992 and what a return! In true Orchids style they have surprised us once more - 'The Way That You Move' is disco but Orchids style; with its hypnotic beat and James' inimitable vocals supported by Pauline Hynds it is guaranteed to get feet moving on dancefloors around the world. The exclusive b sides are the hauntingly beautiful 'Placa San Sebastian' which features James, a piano and some amazing backing harmonies. The final track is the guitar led pop of 'I Just Don't Care' which has more of the classic Orchids sound. The single on Pebble Records is limited to 500 copies and comes with a download code."
And thanks to Brogues for the very nice mention here:

Their gig at the Bowery was possibly the most energetic and extraordinarily fun gig I've seen by The Orchids, which was quite a surprise because the venue was not exactly rammed with fans. But the band were dancing on and off stage, cracking jokes and shouting to each other in Glaswegian between the songs. It made *me* crack up!
I took two videos. "The Coolest Thing" and the classic "Peaches".
There's more than one use for every part

That poster's really quite lovely. Wish I could go.
Looking forward to hearing the new album, The Orchids. Sitting drinking in Bristol with James H back in May and hearing all about the recording of it seems like a dream. x

Thirty years today since The Orchids first played together!
I'm not usually one for counting time but this has moved me to pour a small glass of Dalwhinnie.

Re: The Orchids
On a similar ^ note, I've sacked work for the afternoon to read the Orchids chapter in the Sarah book and I'm now having a dram and seriously considering writing a whole book about them.

Re: The Orchids
It's a lovely chapter on them, for sure. It seems somehow very them that the amazing Yawn was just a track that happened because they were too languid/inebriated to have three tracks ready to go for the EP beforehand.
For them as may have missed it before now, The Orchids' back catalogue pre-Beatitude got the Toppermost treatment just before the Sarah film premiere: http://www.toppermost.co.uk/orchids/
