Re: Good Grief

I finally saw Good Grief, supporting Shonen Knife in Liverpool last night. Just wanted to say, I thought you were pretty good!

I don't know whether you do many gigs in Liverpool these days, but will keep an eye out for any future gigs.

Re: Corry-Orry! or Coronation Street if you prefer

Last night's live show plot was spread a bit thin, but the Roy and Cathy bits were great. Also, did anyone think fella me lad in the chippy was miming to the piped music in there when the sound went a bit dodgy? Yes, me and Andrew both thought he was lip-syncing! I thought it was pretty flawless ap...

Re: Vegan & Vegetarian Food

I've never got on with soya milk before but I've not tried soya and almond before so I might give that a go. I used to love soya yoghurt but not had it in years - does it have much calcium? I know soya milk often has added calcium. I compared plain Alpro yoghurt to a plain natural yoghurt and it wa...

Re: Vegan & Vegetarian Food

I just saw a report on the news about robots milking cows and I've decided to become vegan. Because I'm recovering from a broken leg I need to make sure I get plenty of calcium so what are people's favorite calcium rich foods? I'm probably not the best person to comment, as I'm not even a vegetaria...

Re: Vegan & Vegetarian Food

Question. I'm trying to finally become a vegetarian. I do still love the taste of meat though, so it won't be easy. My main challenge will be missing the taste of chicken. What do you guys recommend as the most similar alternative/replacement for it? In the past I've tried the Quorn chicken pieces ...

Re: Song x sounds like song y

Whilst reacquainting myself with Paul McCartney's back catalogue, it struck me how similar the intros to 'Magneto And Titanium Man' and 'The Boy With The Arab Strap' are.

Re: Comfort eating

I've no idea what pizza chips are but the name alone makes them sound fantastic! It's basically just chips with pizza toppings instead of a dough base. They have margherita, meat feast, holy beef mole, mexican bean and Tennessee (there was bound to be some pulled pork in there somewhere). Probably ...

Re: Comfort eating

There's a place around the corner from here that does pizza chips. Not tried them, but they do sound nice...

I can't comfort eat at all anymore and it makes me really sad.

I think the world needs Monster Munch medicine. I just realised it's only one step away from those Bassetts chewy vitamins you can get.

And that Russell Brand impersonation is uncanny!

Re: what are you cooking for dinner tonight, recipe and all?

Pancakes!!!!

I always use Delia Smith's recipe because I've got my mum's books from the 1970s. We're going to have some savoury ones first made with 1/2 buckwheat flour, 1/2 plain flour. I also have a 1kg jar of Nutella to open...

Re: gin!

Last week I went to the pub with my best friends and they bought me some exquisite gin because I was sad: it tasted of Shakespeare's sonnets and made me the best tipsy ever. And now I can't go buy a cup of tea from the café at work because they've got that gin on the shelf and I look longingly at i...

Re: Baking (cakes and stuff)

So today I blagged a work-from-home day because I just couldn't face going in and, between answering emails and editing mediocre copy, I'm baking two types of bread and a quinoa hazelnut cake. I swear my oven is talking to me. Quinoa hazelnut cake sounds amazing. Do you have a recipe you can pass o...

Re: Baking (cakes and stuff)

I made my very first pumpkin pie this weekend. If I had known it was this easy, I'd have made it many times before! I made the crust out of almond flour (3/4), potato starch (1/4), butter and honey. The filling is 1 pumpkin, rice milk, butter, eggs, cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, vanilla and maple syrup....

Re: Of Montreal

Anyone seen the film yet? I think the last time I looked, they hadn't released the DVD for European players or something. I love that story of the gig, Yex! We saw them last year and there were many costume changes, but at one point he was wearing skintight patterned leggings and no top, which was....

Re: Anorak TV- things on telly that may be of interest

I caught a late-night repeat of the first Sound of Song and thought it was really good. I thought I wouldn't enjoy it from the adverts, although not really sure why... Not on TV as such, but found something really interesting on Netflix. It's a documentary called Good Ol' Freda, which is about Brian...

Re: Soup!

Funnily enough, I was making soup yesterday and wondering whether there was an Anorak thread on the subject. I made a spiced parsnip & cauliflower soup, which I'll be testing out this lunchtime. Toasting fennel & coriander seeds with tumeric, then grinding to a powder in a pestle & mortar was a bit ...

Re: Corry-Orry! or Coronation Street if you prefer

Sad news about Anne Kirkbride and a bit of a shock, to be honest. She's been a constant in Corrie all the time I've watched it, which is almost 30 years, so it's difficult to think of the street without her.

Also, how is Ken going to cope?!

Re: footwear for people when it snows

I get really stressed out when it's frosty and icy. Pagophobia it's called. Probably because the last two times I fell over I damaged myself quite badly (bruised ribs and a broken collar bone). Wow, I didn't know it had a name! I probably have that too, to some extent. I notice I was talking about ...

Of Montreal

As far as I can tell, there is no Of Montreal thread on here. Such a crime! I think Of Montreal are possibly my favourite current band and I can't seem to get enough of them (or him, considering it just seems to all about Kevin Barnes). I've been buying the albums backwards and got as far as Satanic...

Re: Belle and Sebastian

Is no-one going to roll up and slag this off then? This is the Belle and Sebastian thread, isn't it? Maybe Anorak is dying... I've only heard two songs. One was an awful disco-lite thing. The other started really well and then it kinda dragged and drgged and I turned it off after about 4 minutes. I...
