Re: Emily

Finally a retrospective, strange that it covers everything bar the Creation Irony EP

Either way this is a great CD by IMHO one of the 80's most underrated bands

Re: Flying Saucer Attack

Just read that Bill Kellum of VHF records is working on an extended version of "In Search Of Spaces" with Dave Pearce. Ended up listening to a load of FSA, Movietone, Crescent & 3rd Eye all day and was astonished how timeless the music is after nearly 20 years, not dated at all. The Reading FSA gig ...

Re: The Pooh Sticks

I have no proof but I think that Steve was understandably upset that the Pooh sticks were reformed by Hue, after all they were Steve's band. I will buy the record but I got to say that I got a bit bored after Formula One Generation What we now need is for Fierce to release a load more Sea Urchins de...

Re: The Pooh Sticks

Sigh, just when I thought I'd collected the whole Fierce catalogue this comes along and possibly a volume 2 next years. The price is reflective of limited quantity (what else would you expect of Fierce) and vinyl being so expensive at the moment. Regarding Steve's singing he may say differently but ...

Re: The Sarah Records thread

Anybody know if there will be some kind of commercial release? Bit worried that it will end up like the Dolly Mixture and Laurence of Belgravia documentaries in that you'll probably never see them unless you go to the screenings

Re: Matinee Records

The new Steinbecks album is really something. Been listening to it all morning. Definitely taking it on our seaside holiday this year. I was a big Sugargliders fan and have bought a couple of Steinbecks albums over the years but never really gotten into them. Admittedly a different style of music b...

1000 Violins

Really excited to see that a reissue of their early recordings is being made available. For me a very underrated band from the the C86 era and i was lucky enough to see them live at my first ever gig with Talulah Gosh at Bay 63, any other fans out there? http://www.cherryred.co.uk/shopexd.asp?id=4642

Re: The Sarah Records thread

Referring back to a post in the Lost/Unsung band's thread there's a couple of links there that may help, but information is rather scarce: http://www.anorakforum.com/viewtopic.php?p=198688#p198688 Gentle Despite seem to be Simon Westwood, the singer from Esmerelda's Kite, w/ an old school friend (P...

Re: The Sarah Records thread

Sea Urchins - Solace is a great tune, I also really like Gentle Despite - Shadow of a Girl Gentle Despite also have a great tune on the Fierce Sarah records live bootleg. Does anybody know anything about them, there is absolutely nothing on the internet other than a link to another band Esmereldas K...

Re: The Mighty Lemon Drops

Maybe it's because it's their definitive single (to me anyway) i also only bought the 7" at the time so never got round to listening to the extra track on the 12"

On a side note does anybody have any idea how Cherry Red survive, they seem to specialize in releasing a prolific amount of crap?

Reserve - Beneath The London Sky

Has anybody else bought this? http://www.firestation-records.de/catalogue/fst098-reserve-beneath-london-sky.html For me they were one of the great underrated Indiepop bands of the 80's but only ever released one flexi and one 12". Torquil MacLeod's lyrics are genius, I've been collecting their demo'...

Just received this email from Jim Burns the maker of the Serious Drugs DVD and thought i'd post it here. Not sure of the legalities but it seems he is not able to offer the DVD for sale after December 11th 2013. "Thank you once again for your supreme patience. I am delighted to announce that your DV...

Re: 'Scared To Get Happy' boxset

I really wish Jenny Nowhere by The Clouds was on this compilation. It might seem churlish to complain about one track, but for me it's hands down the best song of the era. The Clouds are represented of course and while Tranquil isn't as ubiquitous as Get Out Of My Dream, it's still on two different...

Re: C86 era gigs and clubs

Another really good gig was June 87 or 88 at the ULU Pooh Sticks/Vaselines/Pastels I was a big Pooh Sticks fan and was gutted they never played any of the early singles. The Vaselines and Pastels were very shambolic but just had a presence that made you love them Trev - Would Paul be the guy with th...
