Re: Vivian Girls

I've heard a few songs here and there, and thought they were alright. Never really provoked me to listen to more. Till I saw they were playing an in store down the street from my place. They played for about 45 minutes, and I left incredibly turned off. It was a tambourine and two guitars with the ...

8tracks

Anyone else use this? It is sort of the successor to Muxtape. Streaming internet mixes. My profile is http://8tracks.com/valleyofthebees . If you are really clever and wildly unethical you can figure out how to download songs off it. I have 22 mixes up right now on it. This mix , in particular, enti...

They didn't have him at SXSW. Oddly despite having two guitarist on the Carson Daly thing they had the guitars turned down pretty low in the mix. Which is too bad.

Re: The Pains of Being Pure at Heart

Saw them two and a half times at SXSW and they were amazing. Wish I could have gone to more of their free shows during SXSW, but there was a ton of stuff I wanted to see also. Highlights included: Wavves (it is a revelation to hear their songs live), Crystal Stilts (surprising how the audience went ...

guitar noise (not the good kind)

It seems like my guitar is making more pick-up noise than it used to. The noise is clearly coming from the guitar (not the amp or pedals), because when I roll down the volume knob on the guitar it goes away. It is a single coil (Gibson Melody Maker) so I do expect it to have a certain amount of hiss...

The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart EP is also available.
Where can I buy it? I see places where you can download it, but I'd like to own it on vinyl.

Mi Ami "Clear Light"

Wonderfully dubby experimental rock. The bassline kind of remind me of Saucerful of Secrets. Also reminds me of this band Rome that had an LP on Thrill Jockey that never seems to get mentioned (I don't think they ever toured, or released any other records).

Re: Lux Interior RIP

Don't know if any of you saw this on WFMU's Beware of the Blog. It is a fan-complied 11 volume set of songs that Lux and Ivy mentioned in interviews or covered. I certainly haven't had time to absorb it, but it is sounding pretty good what I've listened to so far. I need to find a copy of the Incred...

Wait, so it is great? I really liked the Nigerian Sublime Frequencies DVD (the Group Inerane stuff especially is amazing). The others I've watched weren't so nearly as good.

It is nice sitting around on a Saturday listening to records. Currently listening to Beat Happening You Turn Me On, before that is was the live LP that came with the deluxe Brighten the Corners reissue when you pre-ordered it.

Hey, how does this work? This will be my first SXSW (I just recently moved to Austin). I am trying to decide how I should do it.

Do you know how "showcases" work? I really really want to go the WFMU/Aquarius Records showcase. Thanks!
