Re: Things I am listening to now then

Has anyone else heard the Eugene McGuinness album that's just come out on Domino? Some of the lyrics are a bit cringeworthy I think, but I'm finding it curiously infectious as a good pop record. And he can leapfrog styles in a way that's pretty impressive.

I think it's the first Fri of every month. I'll have to leave it until nearer the time to find out if I can actually go though! I've not been in years.

Re: The Smiths/Morrissey

I don't suppose anyone fancies a jaunt to the Smiths / Moz disco in Manc later in the year? Maybe November or December? None of my Manc friends will go I doubt.

Re: The Smiths/Morrissey

I am drunk and listening to I Know It's Over.

It is heartbreaking, still. I will never not love The Smiths. It takes guts to be gentle and kind.

I don't think I've seen Human Remains, will have to get it. Julia Davis is ace.

Is anyone else watching the new series of The Hotel? It's basically People Like Us, but real.

He's not actually in it by the way, he stays behind the camera. I was just excited because I was MERE METRES from him last night.

I can now say with confidence that he is even more fit in the flesh. He has a bit of a rockabilly look going on at the mo to boot. *swoon*

Re: General Chat About Films And That

Just been to see Paddy Considine's directorial debut, Tyrannosaur (with a Q&A from Paddy, Olivia Coleman and Eddie Marsan afterwards). As you might expect it's not something to watch if you want cheering up, but it manages to be compelling, disturbing and funny in equal measures. Some staggeringly g...

Re: what book are you reading?

Ooh that Simon Day book sounds good, may give that a go. Trying to read everything on my shelves before buying anything else at the mo though (looking forward to when I've finished this bloody course and can read for pleasure without feeling guilty about it again). I've read Catherine Arnold's Necro...

If I have to see either of those match.com ads again I am going to take a fucking match dot com to the fucking telly dot com.

How disappointing is the Banana Republic 'Mad Men' collection?

http://bananarepublic.gap.com/browse/ca ... ?cid=69572

The men's range is marginally better.

I was thinking more David Dickinson in a wig.

I bet you're going to say she's really nice now aren't you? And has some horrible spinal affliction which makes her head sit wonky or something.

Re: TV Quick: talk about things on telly succinctly

Who, or should I say, what, is that new woman on Dragon's Den? Her head is all awry on her shoulders and it creeps me out - she looks like she's about to go into the crab walk scene from The Exorcist. Still, she clearly has a fuckton of money so she must be doing something right.

Re: TV Quick: talk about things on telly succinctly

Stewart actually says he doesn't mind, as he knows full well he's not a modern mainstream type stand-up and at least he got a second series. Also the first series apparently did much better for iPlayer views than ratings. Yeah I doubt it will stop people watching it, but it's also unlikely to get h...

Re: TV Quick: talk about things on telly succinctly

Apparently The Silent Singer (not in that trailer but in one of the other ones) is really horrible. I can't wait!

It's disgraceful where they've put Stewart Lee's NEW SERIES innit? They may as well put Ceefax over it whilst they're at it.

If I have to see that Maybelline ad where the girl says that she's 'quite emotionally attached to mascara' one more time, I'm going to stab my own eyes out with mine.

Or because someone once ate a roll and sausage there.

I went to Hawick last autumn - it strikes me as a very strange place to play, so I'd advocate going to that.

Can't afford to go to any of 'em meself. They'll all be sold out by the time I can.

Re: what book are you reading?

I've had that for ages but still haven't read it as I wanted to read everything by BSJ first. Some of them are just too hard to get hold of though, so I think I'll just bite the bullet and get on with the biography soon. You can get Christie Malry's Own Double Entry and the Omnibus pretty easily tho...
