This is how I feel whenever I get the chance to see them play!

Lately I've really been enjoying their cover of "Hot Burrito #2" -- it's blistering in the best possible way.

Re: Chickfactor 20th Anniversary Shows NY/DC April 6/7/10/11

I'm prepared to be either there or broken-hearted! (One of the major drawbacks of working closely with schools is that they don't like you to take your vacation time while school is in session, but I am going to try my best to be there.) Especially because I'm impossibly excited about Lois, The Soft...

Re: what book are you reading?

Right now I'm reading The Doomsday Book by Connie Willis. I'm enjoying it a lot, but it's best when I'm able to read it for long, uninterrupted chunks of time. Last year I got really into using the website Goodreads to track what I've been reading. I'm not really interested in rating books or writin...

Re: Things I am listening to now then

I've been listening to The Babies s/t album (came out on Shrimper, I think?) a lot -- it was one of my favorites of 2011 & I'm seeing them play with Real Estate in a couple of weeks. I've also been listening to Waxahatchee's American Weekend album, though I can't say I like it nearly as much as Kati...

Our US tour with the Wave Pictures in support was announced last week - US Anoraks details for those shows are here: http://allodarlin.com/shows.html x I'm so excited to see a Cleveland date on this list! (And at one of my favorite venues, to boot.) May can't come soon enough. "Capricornia" sounds ...

For any US anoraks, note the different, earlier "Europe" release date and mention of a tour! http://www.forcefieldpr.com/site/2011/12/13/allo-darlin-announce-new-single-on-slumberland-share-album-teaser-video/ I'm definitely intrigued by the promise of a full US our (I hope they'll be coming throug...

Re: Guided By Voices

Bob Pollard's online store is having a $5.00 CD blowout sale, there's a lot of good old stuff that's been marked down -- if you haven't had a chance to pick up albums like Speak Kindly of Your Volunteer Fire Department (with Doug Gillard) or Go Back Snowball (with Mac Mccaughan) now might be a good...

Re: Things I am listening to now then

I've been listening to an old Beserkley Records compilation a lot lately. The best songs on it are Greg Kihn's "Madison Avenue" and The Rubinoos' cover of "I Think We're Alone Now." Everything on it is great, though, in a seventies power pop kind of way.

Re: what book are you reading?

I've just started the new Haruki Murakami, 1Q84 , and am about 150 pages in. I like it so far, but I feel like most of the time if you like one of Murakami's books, you're bound to like the rest. I also recently finished Jeffrey Eugenides' The Marriage Plot and really enjoyed it. I set a goal for my...

Re: New musical discoveries

I got a pack of tapes from Burger Records in the mail the other day, all bands I had never heard before. So far I've listened to the new tape from Salsa Chips and the Garbo's Daughter tour cassette -- both are great scrappy garage rock/pop punk with male & female vocals. I especially like the Salsa ...

you're in for a treat. they're touring the Bakesale/Harmacy reissues, aren't they? Lou'n'Jake songs galore. huzzah I saw them touring to promote the Bakesale/Harmacy reissues earlier this year and it was fantastic -- one of the best shows I've been to in recent memory. Lou is always a pleasure to s...

Re: what book are you reading?

This summer I've been reading strictly light, "trashy" stuff to give my brain a break -- that translates into a lot of mysteries, mostly ones written by Carol Goodman about female folklore scholars solving mysteries on school campuses. This afternoon I took a break from mysteries to start James Fran...

I'm so glad for this thread! While I've listened to a lot of great new albums this year, I missed a bunch, too, so it's nice to hear about what other people have been enjoying. Most of my favorites so far have already been mentioned (The Pains, Gold-Bears, Girls Names, Vivian Girls, La Sera, P.S. El...
