"Urban"? "Tolerance"? Seriously? Do you have no idea how problematic this post is?

I'm looking forward to RAH for Tigermilk and still debating doing Sinister the next night. I'm curious to know what 'other' songs means in the event description but your post gives me hope for good things, Chris!

Re: Mexican food

Has anyone done empanadas? I'm getting empanada urges. It's not especially Mexican, but hey. Anything that involves bread you can fry has got to be worth a look, right? I made empanadas out of Veganomicon a couple summers ago and they turned out well! I don't have the book with me but just found th...

Re: London is great

I appreciate I've been absent from Anorak a long time and have lost touch with all but a few people, but I'm in London until July 5 and then other parts of the UK and possibly other parts of Europe until August 5. Anyone in London interested in an informal reading group of some sort? Poetry? I'd lik...

Re: Belle and Sebastian

I saw them play this last week in Miami. The video here really makes the song look really sad and ridiculous, but I'm pretty sure drunk me really enjoyed that keytar (as drunk me often does). I think the copious amounts of some cinnamon "whiskey" and the giddiness of seeing them with a bunch of peop...

Re: It's the Large Hadron Collider Thread, yo!

I'm popping in to recommend the Particle Fever documentary. I didn't start watching it expecting to get emotional, but shortly in felt a lump in my throat and was in tears by the end. It's worth watching for David Kaplan's reply to an economist about the value of the project, a reply that gave me a ...

I'd figured it happened in the book, too. I liked Ygritte. She deserved better.

Re: Game of Thrones

I've already complained about this in other environs, but I found that episode to be really dull with the exception of the aforementioned mammoth and giants. It was just too much battle for too long! And as soon as I saw Ygritte was dying, I was willing her not to use that dang catchphrase of hers....

Re: Game of Thrones

after watching the most recent episode fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuckkkk! I went through all the emotions available to me in the last ten minutes of that episode. And I still feel awful every time I think about Oberyn. I don't want to know anything from book readers, but I su...

Here's good article on something I'm struggling to understand from last night's episode. I haven't read the books, but maybe it's presented differently there?

Re: Game of Thrones

I know it's all about the big thing at the end now, but now that part's settled for me I keep going back to all the other parts I loved this week. I love Oberyn! That chat he had with Cersei was deadly (had to borrow some Dublin phrasing there). And that look he gave to Loras! I don't want to know i...

Re: Vegan & Vegetarian Food

I made the switch from vegetarian (20 years+) to vegan two months ago and have been so far successful and not at all tempted by eggs or dairy or anything (including all that hidden stuff). I'm sure I can stick to it! And I'm not even resorting to a diet of Fritos and other junk. I just had my first ...

I remember hearing these two were doing stuff together but I'd forgotten to look into it much. I've listened to Delicate Cycle quite a few times between last night and today and just now Alligator and Scissorhands and I'm off to get the album.

Re: Game of Thrones

SpoilerShow
This isn't coming from someone who read the books, but did Jon Snow take off to lead the Wildlings away from Bran and Rickon (he could have noticed those wolves were Summer and Shaggydog, maybe?) Maybe he didn't actually betray Ygritte (though I know she is clearly seeing it as a betrayal).
