Re: what book are you reading?

"The Leopard" by Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa. A fabulous, poetical piece of historical fiction, set in Sicily during the time of Italian unification. Recommended... One of my top books! love it! At the moment i'm ploughing through T.C. Boyle's World's End and I'm liking it but it's more of a winte...

Re: what book are you reading?

The Christmas that I spent devouring All Quiet On The Orient Express is still one of my fondest memories. Remember being captivated by Three To See The King also. Really need to catch up with Mills recent work. Still I think Restraint of Beasts is his best one , All Quiet on the Orient Express is m...

Re: what book are you reading?

halfway through A Prayer For Owen Meany . it's been impressive so far, but i get the feeling it's building up to something incredible well, ok, it keeps basically telling me that it's building up to something incredible, so that's probably why that Book is AMAZING - Don't worry you'll be rewarded :)

Re: The Hidden Cameras

There's a feature on the Guardian music blog about some of the writers' favourite albums. Whatever. But this one's about The Smell of Our Own : http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/musicblog/2011/aug/16/favourite-album-hidden-cameras It reminded me that when I first got that record, I wanted to buy a hu...

Re: Play that folky music!

That BpB gig was legendary! when he sang I See a Darkness there was a certain silence you'd only hear in a library. I'm going through a Woods phase at the mo - Five albums in and not one has disappointed me yet. My fave being Songs of Shame. Then if you consider Grizzly Bear a folk band I'm crazy ab...

Re: The "I just made a song, do you want to listen?" thread.

I'm from Malta and The Suburbanite is my musical solo project. I quite like it. Weird-simple and catchy. The "oh-oh-oh" thing is now lodged in my head. I'm part of a small collective of other bedroom pop artists called SoLoFi, which includes Bark Bark Disco. Please can you say more about Maltese be...

Re: Frànçois and the Atlas Mountains

At the mo there's some fuss over them in France as they have signed to Domino. I have 'The People to Forget' album and it's excellent so I'm looking forward to the new album

:) - even Pete the Pirates were very good and they had one of the worst slots (2:00pm) but there was a 100 strong crowd and people were jumping about

I was quite surprised when they weren't on rough trade anymore.

At least there's a new release. So far Young Forever is my fave album.

Re: Dead festivals

Barcelona's Summercase is dead - In 2007 Belle and Sebastian and Hidden Cameras played. I went to the 2008 (and last edition) I saw Pete and the Pirates and Los Campesinos I think i went to every Summercase - mainly due to the great location. Los Campsinos were absolutely fabulous that year. I also...

Re: The Drums?

As for the Drums - I liked the summertime ep but I found the debut to be solid - some great melodies and that's all. I think that the new single is ok but does ape the smiths a wee bit
