Re: Mexican food

...and a drop of Liquid Smoke (inevitably). Liquid Smoke is incredible isn't it? Just a wee drop in baked beans. Gawwjuss! I did a veggie chilli last night as it goes. Just loads of beans and pulses in a right thick, spicy tomato sauce with lots of garlic (and the customary drop of liquid smoke). T...

Re: Soup!

I have discovered possibly the best soup ever: red lentil, carrot, roasted squash and tomato. That sounds bloody brilliant Pete. Care to share the recipe? I'm a bit more of a broth than a soup man if I'm honest. I think it's the texture that makes me gak a little when it's too thick and sludgey. I ...

Nah, I love Stay Loose. I love Your Cover's Blown so it ought to be since then, of course.

I've spent far, far too much on a pair of these. The red laces seduced me, I'll admit it.

Re: Belle and Sebastian

There's some right good moments on "Girls in Peacetime..." The opening track has an amazing melody. And Play For Today is possibly the best thing I've heard them do since Stay Loose.

I had a bit of an off period with them which sort of perked up when the last LP came out.

Re: TV Quick: talk about things on telly succinctly

The Undateables? Hideous look-and-point exploitative TV or does it make you go right warm and fuzzy inside whenever any of the guys/girls have a successful date? I'm definitely in the latter category. I find I feel almost as nervous as them in as much as I want them to find love and be happy. I bet ...

Re: The Football

Good luck tonight Leon. Could be a good time to catch Millwall as they're on a bit of a downer form wise. Phil Morais! I loved him at Oldham. He's a very classy player although he tended to get double marked out of games for us and we released him. I wish we kept hold of him, a real crowd favourite.

Staggeringly good GTFC festive message video thing. Won't embed. In which football turns out to be alive after all. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0FqeTerEPwE <3 You know, I watched that Pete and it made me feel really warm. It's proper lower league charm isn't it, if that doesn't sound too patroni...

Re: Breakfast (the most important meal of the day)

That's a point - cereal. Does anyone ever really, actually like cereal? I have like really big cravings for certain cereals which last for about a week and invariably leave me with a half-finished box for months. And cereal's always a late-night thing for me. Never breakfast. For a couple of years ...

Re: Venues we have loved (and perhaps lost)

Indeed. The probably deaths of these venues is awful. The Star & Garter in Manchester is set to be closed for a couple of years as the road it is on will be shut because of the redevelopment of Piccadilly train station for the HS2 project I gather. This road closure - which will strangle the scarce ...

It'll probably be on screen around Christmas won't it, like TIE '88. I think '8...

Re: Anti-Pitchfork 'Albums of the Decade' so far

Keep meaning to get a Papercuts album.[/quote] Yeah, they had one out this year (Life Among The Savages) but I've only given it one listen (I've got it on now as it goes). On first impressions it's decent. There's two things I love about them; Jason's voice and the fact that he's got the same build...

Re: Anti-Pitchfork 'Albums of the Decade' so far

The articles are usually worth reading, I reckon, I just think they're a bit up themselves and are very aware of their 'influential' position. A bit like most rock-crit sites, I suppose - the reason it annoys me is likely because I used to take it all so seriously when I was a kid - which, of cours...

Re: Anti-Pitchfork 'Albums of the Decade' so far

Beachhouse's 'Teen Dream' one is one of the ones I've got - starts well and takes a nosedive I thought. No way is it the fifth best record of the decade or something. Then again, pitchfork know these things - who are we to question? It's definitely my favourite of the past 10 years. I adore it. I d...

Re: The Football

You would think, that after nearly two decades in the same division, that the fans would know what to usually expect. But no, they seem to be calling for a manager's head two weeks into a new season, when said manager has kept us up the last two seasons despite having one of the lowest budgets in th...

Re: The Football

So in football the clock wouldn't automatically stop for every goal kick, free kick, throw in, etc. It'd only stop when the referee indicated (ie where there's a significant delay for injury, disciplining players, substitution, whatever). I don't see how it'd necessarily allow teams to abuse stoppa...

Re: The Football

But if we do that in football, we'll be there for about four hours, won't we? Teams abuse stoppages as it is. The flow of the game would be worse in my opinion. The best games of football are those with a rapier-quick tempo and the ball being moved round fast. This would get ruined if you employed ...
