I watch and enjoy this show, but I can see how it is confusing.

The kids and parents are assholes, have no doubt, but they are also edited in a way to make them look like the worst people in the world, when they're really only in like the top 30th percentile (behind rapists, homophobes, religious extremists, New Zealanders, and your basic racist/misogynists). I don't know if they know they're being mocked, or if they even care. They probably don't and we all know they should but they never will for a variety of reasons. I suppose the fact they have no true friends and the first time they're told "no" will be more crushing than 10,000 rural Chinese schools is vaguely comforting.
Q: I know you are, but what am I?
A: A garbage man.

Well, yeah, they rarely seem very happy. And it's not like they're anything to aspire to, they're more like freak show, Cher from Clueless pre-makeover gone wrong.

This show was filmed near here once, and I had some friends who worked on it because they worked for the party planner, and the producers and things told the girl she needed to be a bigger jerk or her show might not air.

I'm always shocked by how old these so called 15 year olds look.
The mega-spoilt grow up so fast, it would seem. Or just too much make up.
Thats what bothers me, rather than the obscene amount of money thrown around.

I always thought American kids kind of don't look like teenagers, they just go to looking like adults!

Seriously. I was looking through one of my best friends' year books when she had a senior year in an American high school and OH MY GOD they all looked 25! It was nuts. People just looked scrawnier/younger in Sweden, i guess, and from the looks of it The UK too.

Hehe.

Maybe that's why they always have 25-yr-olds playing teenagers in American teen shows like Dawson's Creek, One Tree Hill etc. It may have been realistic all along..!
