My boyfriend bought a Paranoia Agent boxset the other day. I can't confess to knowing much about anime really, but I am quite enjoying this. I like how each episode is about a completely different group of people, and how everyone is linked very vaguely to each other.

The episode with the people from the suicide chat room is my favourite, oh, and the one with the schizophrenic teacher/hooker. yeah.

Anyone here seen Tekkon Kinkreet, yet? It's the film adaptation of the Manga Black & White. I was warned it was more style than substance, but wow, it blew me away. Great characters plus great visuals. 5 stars.
Ooo, I saw that. It was brilliant, wasn't it? So mythic and unusual, and the animation was phenomenal. Yeah, I thought that was one of the best flat-out films I've seen this year. I might get the manga just to compare.

i've just downloaded a full copy of 5cm per second – i had only seen the first bit but i thought it was fantastic (trains + long distance romance + fantastic visually = winning formula). i think i may have to forgo sleep to watch the whole thing. also i finally found kanojo to kanojo no neko: a nice short film about a cat, also by Makoto Shinkai. all his stuff is worth watching in my opinion

5cm per second is the kind of show that makes me want a HD monitor (and fast enough computer/blueray or hd-dvd player)so i can appreciate it's full glory. Mononoke is also fantastic looking, though in a totally different way to 5cm per second.

Tekkon Kinkreet looks very interesting: i shall seek it out.

Great Teacher Onizuka is lots of fun.

i've been watching School Days today. it's a bit ecchi, but few shows have managed to make me feel so sick to my stomach* and created such a deep hatred for the main characters in such a short space of time. i'm only on ep. 6 though, so maybe they will redeem themselves. and i thought it was just going to be another mildly comical harem type show…
what with this, and the ending to 5cm per seconds that i watched yesterday and the massive assignment i should be doing right now(too late, on the beer already), i'm an emotional wreck this evening. i think i'll have to find something happy/life affirming to watch

*not in an eww gross way: shows with people slicing each others heads off i can totally deal with, but not this emotional manipulation and cheating: it makes me really angry

just finished the last episode of School Days: that's some fucked up shit.
i can't decide if it was really good or really bad. never the less it joins elfen lied at the top of the 'most fucked up' list.
not through goriness, even BIG SPOILER:
the last episode with all the murder, decapitation and womb opening isn't really that gory
but the brilliant concept of taking the classic high school harem show and replacing the typical wussy male lead with an uberhorny sociopath (or just horny & incredibly stupid bastard if you're being really generous - to be fair, the other characters are just as bad)
when i say there were only 3 likeable characters in the show: these were the ones who had about 2 lines each, and i'm sure had they been old enough/given more screen time, they would have joined in.
(this all means that they didn't redeem themselves in the last 6 episodes. not even close  )
(heh, triple post!, the thread is quickly becoming my personal anime blog)

I finally saw Clannad episodes 1-12. Episode 13 comes out this week.

I also finally saw Perfect Blue and really liked it. Very strange though.

I was dragged to an anime convention this weekend by some girls and was stunned by the amount of costumes and the intricacy of them and everything else.

I'm a huge comic book fan and I've been to comics conventions and seen a handful of people dressed up but at AnimeCon it was seriously 7 out of every 10 people dressed up in hugely elaborate costumes.

It makes me think there's got to be something to the whole anime phenomenom to instill this kind of dedication and obsession. The extent of my familiarity is basically Studio Ghibli and Final Fantasy.

So any recommendations? Anime or manga, although finding anime to download is probably easier than finding manga at the library.

i've been away from the internet for a lot of the summer, so i missed the starting of the current season. anybody have any recommendations? the only thing i'm going to give a try at the moment is "Natsu No Sora" or whatever it's called -- the first episode seemed interesting.

though i don't really need more stuff to watch -- it's going to take ages to finish the shows i'm in the middle of at the moment. i just counted and it's an unbelivable 21 shows. to be fair, half of those are still airing/being subbed, and at least a third i've no plans to finish because they were crap -- i'm looking at you kanokon; blighting my anime folder with your shitiness and excessive fan service

I've just been watching shows that seem to have stalled a bit in the subbing process. None of the summer season has really caught my interest, except for Hidamari Sketch 365, but I can't watch it until I finish the first season of Hidamari Sketch. Some new stuff that I'm looking forward to is Toradora! and Umineko no Naku Koroni, but they don't come out for a while.

i'm currently mustering the courage to watch the next episode of mnemosyne. i've watched the first 4 so far, but that was ages ago (when they first got subbed). i'm sure the last two episodes are going to be just as gut retching* as the others, and at 45 mins an episode, it's a pretty intense show to watch. Mamiko Noto does an amazing job as Rin though.

i've just marathoned Genshiken and Genshiken 2 over the last 2 days. you've got to love the episode titles for the first season:

01 "Study of the Modern Visually-Oriented Culture"
02 "Comparative Classification of the Modern Youth through Consumption and Entertainment"
03 "Problems and Merits of Local Culture Promotion"
04 "The Sublimating Effects of the Dissimulation Brought on Through Makeup and Costume on Mental Obstacles"
05 "Limits of Rejection and Receptiveness as Observed in Autonomous Behaviour"
06 "On Connecting with Others through Subculture"
07 "Aspects of Behavioral Selection in Interpersonal Relationships"
08 "Comparative Study in Production Models and Processes"
09 "Concerning the Existence and Non-Existence of Explanatory Duties Under Specially Confined Circumstances"
10 "The Fetishism of Leisure Time Expenditures Considered by their Economic Result"
11 "On the Presence of Malicious Intent in Urban Crimes"
12 "Countermeasures for Issues that Arise during the Reorganization of a Group"

Ogiue is the cutest character ever. (her voice! my god, her voice!) wait, sorrry that should have been: i'd never like an otaku character! they disgust me!
Image

(there is something very fitting and hilarious about the fact that a google image search of ogiue turns up an increasing number of, ahem, non-canon images, the further you go from the first page.)

i've also been watching ichigo mashimaro/strawberry marshmallow recently which is incredibly hilarious. i would have watched it earlier if it hadn't been for bastards on the internet calling it pedo. it's really not at all (cute, not pedo!) (compared to shit like kodomo no jikan or moetan at least) of course the lesson here is not to listen to people on the internet (unless those people are me, of course)

i thought this image was very funny:

sweet. and this one even has the titles and descriptions. i didn't know they were making an ova of Sayonara Zetsubo Sensei, something to look forward to there, though i hope it doesn't mean there won't be another full season.

it's always difficult to tell if things will be good, but fairly easy to know if stuff will be bad, so these charts are often not very promising looking. i'll probably check out yozakura quartet. and i know i'll end up watching season 2 of rosario & vampire despite the first season being awful. and clannad after story, though i'm not very excited about that. Jigoku Shoujo is something i've been wanting to watch for a while, just need to get my hands on season 1 first.
