Dead Set

Post by tubby » Mon Oct 13, 2008 11:33

I saw a pretty slick preview for this on the weekend. It's by that Charlie Brooker character and something to do with Big Brother and zombies. I believe the housemates are all stuck inside and unaware that the outside world is turning into zombiemush.

This is bad comedy.

Heh, I can't wait to see this.

It's done by Brooker, stars Kevin Eldon and hopefully will have a Rob in it.

I like that linky too, but it's best enjoyed in the DARK

I thought this was alright. The characters all seem a little bit obvious at the moment though, but I expect we'll see the hidden depths in the later episodes.

Davina's death was juuust on the right side of superhammy.

I was surprised (and pleased) by how gory it was. It's nice to see proper horror on television (although Fringe on Sky One has had it's moments).

I'm kind of enjoying it. I wish there was a week between episodes though because I can see myself getting bored with it being on every night.

Totally worth it for the scenes of ex-Big Brother contestant-based zombie mayhem, soundtracked by Mika, and the sight of a zombified Davina McCall.

it wasn't boring, but i think it's to early into its run to judge properly. I thought it was a bit poor that even in 2008, characters still don't know what zombies are and refer to them as "those...those things" or whatever.

Robert Kirkman said in one of the intros to his Walking Dead comcis that he felt the best zombie stories always offer some sort of social or cultural commentary, and i agree. This one hasn't offered anything especially interesting beyond it being set in Big Brother (YET) so i'm hoping it's gonna build as it goes on.

i think, though, that instead of showing it round halloween, they should've shown it instead of Big Brother one week - have the final series as a scam but not release any info about it, type thing. But real life telly doesn't work in quite the same way as it should in my brain.

We'll see anyway. My verdict on episode 1: it was... ok.

Haven't seen it yet, but it can be downloaded from thebox.bz. I assume it's on 4ondemand too, but that doesn't work on my mac.

I'm not sure if it'll be on 4OD cos I'm not sure how that works. I presumed (perhaps foolishly) that 4OD only shows things that have been on channel 4, rather then it's slight more exciting brother E4.

Anyway I thought this was pretty good, funny in places and brilliantly brutal. Shame I don't really like the main character,at least not yet. Brooker's shameless use of the word 'cunt' albeit in written form was brilliant.

I would say though, that even if people have missed the first episode it'll be worthwhile watching the next one anyway, not a lot to catch up on. Zombies end up on tv set, cause mayhem etc.

Isn't the first rule of a good zombie film that under no circumstances are the characters to utter the z-word?

4oD on our cable package tends to show stuff from e4 as well, but i don't know if that's how it works online. also, if they're releasing a dvd of it, it's likely they'll 'forget' to put it up on demand.

Hmmm... maybe. ok, point taken. It just seems faintly twee to have people being totally confused by them. I don't think that's the worst thing about in anyway... two episodes in, i'm starting to worry that it's actually just a bit dull. Three days to make up for it though! It might just be a slow-burner. I hope so!

It's fucking ZOMBEEEEESSSSSS!
On the telly!
It's British.
It's gory.
Charlie Brooker done it.
Davina gets her throat ripped out and ex-BB contestants get massacred!

It's a refreshing change all the other crap on telly at the moment.

A highly enthusiastic 2 thumbs up.
And that's just from the pilot.

Catching up on last night's now.

I'm a night behind too, but very much enjoying it. Shame it was a double length pilot though, as 30 mins of second episode is not enough.

I felt the first one a little long, but then all the subsequent episodes have been over all too quickly. The quality and momentum probably dipped a little in places, but I thought last night's one was pretty great. I was genuinely tense for the whole second half. Bleak.
If I heard the post-show announcement correctly, then it's on in feature-length form tonight.

I thought last night started getting quite interesting, and then it ended. If only they’d started with their Lord Of The Flies angst earlier on in the week.

The last five minutes were harrowing.
