Here's a remarkable thing: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/You%27re_in_the_Picture

In short: in 1961 CBS launched a game show called You're In The Picture in which celebrities poked their heads through illustrations of famous scenes and had to guess via yes/no questions what it was. It was not only dropped after the opening show, but in the same slot the following week the host came back and slagged it off for the full half-hour. And here that is: http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x5kwd0 ... r_creation

Against all manner of better judgement, the Challenge TV repeats of the first series of Bullseye from 1981 on Thursday nights (repeated Tuesdays) are a quiet wonder. The production values suggest they were filmed in Bowen's garage, everyone bar Jim mumbles, there's no Tony Green so Bowen has to do the arithmetic in his head (slowly, often having to move the dart head to see what it hit), one of the prizes on the prize board has been a pair of lighters and the consolation prize is a set of chalk holders. Marvellous.

Anyone been watching Hannibal? (It's on Sky Living so I can see why you might not have been)

I'm surprised to find that it's really good. A police procedural which is the prequel to a massively famous series of books and films and contains lashings of violence should be rubbish, but it turns out to be a study of how that violence eats at the soul of the people forced to confront it. It's also full of brilliant acting and has a strange dreamlike feel to it.

It's still a network TV series with all the problems that can entail, but it's certainly interesting...

I am enjoying Hannibal, Mads MIkkelsen is always worth a watch. I am not sure if the quality will continue for the long haul or whether I am enjoying it more than usual because I have just finished watching The Following.

I don't know if we have a separate Mad Men thread and if we do I can't go there for fear of spoilers. If you're a fan and I tell you I've just watched the penultimate episode of season 5 though, then you'll know why I'm sad.

a lot of cop shows are really creepy and its clear the proliferation of cop shows is a way of training people to look at things a certain way

"The Shield" is good though

I've only watched the first one, got the other couple taped and need to catch up! I loved the one I did see, although I found the frequent advert breaks particularly intrusive as they really broke up the spooky atmosphere. Hoping being able to skip through them on the recordings will help, otherwise I might wait for the DVD...

We're watching it too, I'm thoroughly enjoying it, although R keeps making nonsensical exclamations in French, which also disrupts the atmosphere somewhat. I have no idea where it's going, but I don't care.

Now, the other night I was flicking absently through the channels and happened across another hit-and-miss episode of Mock The Week.

At one point they were discussing the "news" that Lego have received complaints that too many of their little Lego men and women have scary or sad faces, compared to the sort of tight-but-contented little grins they all used to be blessed with.

That led to a mockup photo being shown of what all the Mock The Week regulars might look like as Lego men, viz:

Image

At which point I stopped dead in my tracks.

Wait a minute, I thought, haven't we seen those faces before?

Yes, it turns out that we have...

Yes, it's fantastic. We normally watch it on catch up on Monday to avoid the relentless adverts and have been pretty bloody enthralled. We didn't watch last Sunday's episode on Monday, so we're gonna watch it tonight... and that has made me ridiculously happy and excited. Well, that and it's a week till we all meet in a field near a railway :-)

New Walking Dead Season 4 trailer. Have a look before AMC no doubt yank it off. Tooks terrific and far more like the comics are in tone and feel. I felt they went off the rails a little bit in Season 3. They seem to have a real comic fanboy doing a lot of the writing now by all accounts.

Fuck your tea room.

I rarely find stuff on telly I want to watch these days. I don't have Sky, I don't do the crime dramas or the soaps. But I keep finding myself watching Xtreme Waterparks on the Travel Channel on Freesat. Is there something wrong with me?

Just binge watched the first series of Misfits on 4od, and thought it was amazing. Cleverly written, funny, moving, well acted and directed. I hated pretty much all of the main characters at first, but ended up kinda liking them all. I love how low key it all is too.

I'd kind of been put off it because (and this is terrible I know) it was a UK series and I've not seen a decent UK drama show for years, and we tend to be rubbish at sci-fi/fantasy type stuff (don't like new Dr Who, soz). Maybe I should climb out of my arse and watch some more homegrown drama...

(Sorry if there was a thread for this already. Had a quick look but couldn't see anything).

Saw the first episode, thought it looked ok, but missed the second completely (it was off 4od by the time I could watch it).

catch it if you can, it's not really science fiction, more a sort of fortnight into the future dystopian paranoid thriller with some nice little offbeat quirks... really good cast too

not that I want to raise your expectations but in this punter's opinion it's definitely a cut above

I would second that position. It had it all really. Clever. Funny. Strange. Beautiful to look at.
Trying to think of other great British stuff from recent years now. The Shadow Line on BBC2 was a pretty impressive piece of work.

the sound on 'utopia' was amazing too... I really need to watch it again... I came to it with little to no expectations and was mightily impressed

I thought Utopia looked intriguing. I'll definitely give it another look if I get a chance.
