Yeah, it's excellent.

Took me two watches and my observant wife to work out that the black and white bit is post-Breaking Bad.

It was also great how it humanises Saul (and Tuco, even). I guess that was always the point of Breaking Bad, but Saul was always a bit of a caricature (in the best possible way). I don;t actually remember why Saul ended up fleeing, but I suppose Wikipedia can help me out.

Saul was the only good thing about that awful show.

I think that as Better Call Saul goes on it becomes more clear that we're watching a tragedy. Jimmy is a very moral person underneath it all, and he tries his best for his clients, diving in dumpsters to get the evidence he needs. If he takes shortcuts it's only because he's been crapped on by the big boys a lot.

What turns him from that to Saul Goodman may be quite painful to watch. Even though Saul is one of most moral characters in Breaking Bad, that's frankly not saying much.

I put off watching Better Call Saul for a while because I wanted to binge on it. I think it's excellent. Much better than I was expecting.

Like I really enjoyed Breaking Bad but at the end of the day, for me, it was just the televisual equivalent of a page-turner. It felt most of the time like they were making it up as they went along and White's only real motivation seemed to be that we was a massive self-absorbed dick. And don't get me started on Hank and Marie.

Better Call Saul seems much better plotted out - there's backstory within backstory and all the characters seem much better rounded.

And it's beautifully shot.
