Watching this evening's second Corrie I find myself having to reach for Roger's Profanisaurus... 'gorilla orchard' must surely be in there

Hah! That was classic Corrie dialogue, there.

Hayley turned Corrie off tonight (half-way through the second half) declaring it 'worse than Eastenders' and although I garumphed 'too far, young lady, TOO FAR!!!' I actually think she's got a point. Corrie's plop rate has definitely gone up in recent years but the latest storylines are turd upon turd upon turd... and I'm not quick to using the t-word... sorry Corrie but we're having a month off, sort yourself out or it might become permanent*

*everyone involved in the making of Corrie reads anorak, obviously

I'm watching it on +1. Sean's jacket is offending me most.

It's shit, isn't it? The storylines I mean, not the jacket. Can't remember the jacket. I always end up half watching it, half reading Charlotte Mew for laughs.

It used to be fun - what happened?

the gail/lewis* scenes make me feel a bit sick, to be honest. isn't it time they jibbed off gail?

i remember reading jim shelley (or was it grace dent? don't remember too well, obv) saying corrie's scriptwriters were "the masters of the slow-burning plotline". i first thought they must have read that circa the shelley/charlie stubbs storyline and thought 'right then! let's drag that out ad infinitum. WE'RE SO GOOD AT TELLY'

now the tyrone/kirsty thing has gone on far too long. i'm semi-engrossed in it, but it's hard to maintain yr interest in a grim, lengthy, drawn-out plot when all the other storylines around it are so unremittingly miserable

can't we bring jack and vera back from the dead? or at least pair the usually-wonderful steve mcdonald off with someone who makes him interesting - he's gone totally flat lately.

MORE LAFFS, LESS UNSYMPATHETIC TRAGIC FIGURES** PLEASE

*i always want to call him richard. suspect this is a combination of gail once going out with a bellend called richard, and nigel havers slightly reminding me of richard madely
**just fuck gail off, please, it's been overdue for years

One of the best ways the scriptwriters dealt with a difficult subject in modern times, I think, was Alma's death. It wasn't drawn out and there were touches of humour.

Gail is just plain annoying, yeah. I know she's meant to be a flawed matriarch, but no-one's that fucking thick over and over again, are they?

i think i tsk and sigh whenever gail comes on screen in a similar fashion to my flatmate in uni, watching the simpsons and moaning 'fucksake, a lisa episode'

quick route to success:

- more kirk as comic stooge rather than scene-filling dimwit
- more steve mcdonald as hilarious, put-upon, world-weary everyman
- no more gail (and she can take creepy-looking pseudo-nick with her)
- bring back becky or karen, steve's no fun without em
- less miserable shite

it might finally be time to jettison ken barlow too. i know he's a constant in the fast-paced world of soap entries'n'exits, but they ran out of ideas for him ages ago. every time they try to jazz him up it totally fails to convince

post your corrie improvement suggestions below

or don't, i'm not bothered really

Aye, I'm done with Gail. Had enough of her ages ago, and watching her simpering face gazing up at Lewis is making me angry. I miss Blanche and her hilarious one-liners. I think Sylvia and Mary sort of make up for it, but fall short by quite a long way. I'd like to see more of Julie, but not this new Julie who's best mates with Kirsty. The OLD Julie.

Basically, I just want this storyline to be over. It's stressing me out, perhaps more than a soap storyline should, and I'd like them to wrap it up now so I can go back to my usual Corrie escapism. I hope they do get rid of Kirsty completely, because between her and Gail they've got the wobbly-eyed stare sewn up and I hate that wobbly-eyed stare (unless it was Tony doing it. Ah, the good old Scottish soap villain).

yup. i agree with pretty much all of this

bring back the magic, corrie

half the time i feel like homer s shouting "stupid tv! be more funny!"

i'm even starting to miss bog-eyed shouter bruce jones... there's no-one filling the les battersby vacancy right now

can't steve and lloyd hatch some sort of hilarious scheme, instead of being reduced to fuck-up-prone, exasperated eye-rollers in other characters' tragedies?

christ, even something predictably zeitgeisty like having one of em audition for big brother or x factor or sommat would make for a better storyline than the turds of misery masquerading as narrative right now

My other half thinks Corrie could be improved if they introduced a Rapture storyline, where all the characters are judged for what they've truly done. I can't help thinking he's right.

Been a fan for years but could easily stop watching now.
Bill Roache is one of the worst actors on the whole prog. Can't stand Carla, Peter, Fay, Gary Windyarse (and his personality transplant).
LOVE Rita, Dennis (altho he doesn't do much), Norris, Mary, Gloria, David.

A brilliant and funny episode from the 60s:
