Re: The Star Wars geek thread
I'm going to watch The Force Awakens on Friday. I think it's the first time ever that I've bought a cinema ticket in advance.
So yeah, mildly excited. Who else is off to watch it?

I wasn't that arsed (after the car crash that was episode 2 I've never even bothered watching 3). But I've just read a review and now I'm quite into the idea. I probably won't though. I only like going to the cinema when there are about four other people in the whole auditorium.

Force Awakens is really good. Better than the prequels. Got the sense of fun back.

I'm the same so I went to a screening at 10 this morning. Very few people in and they were rather quiet. In some ways I wish it had been busier so that I might have heard a bit more audience reaction. Anyway I thought the film was brilliant. Mark Kermode's review in the Guardian sums up my feelings towards the film as I had a very similar reaction as he did. I might even go and see it again.humblebee wrote:I only like going to the cinema when there are about four other people in the whole auditorium.

That's why we went to see it at half nine this morning.humblebee wrote:I only like going to the cinema when there are about four other people in the whole auditorium.
We spent all yesterday watching the other three films in preparation. I'm glad they finally made a fourth. It was good. It made me swear out loud at one point! And now I can start looking at the internet again :-).

To be honest I was disappointed by the new star wars. For a start the dialogue's entirely in Korean, and the Chinese subtitles take up half the screen.

Re: The Star Wars geek thread
Wasn't sure if I should put this hear or in one of the gender equality threads, but due to the spoilers contained herein, I'm putting it in the Star Wars thread:

Re: The Star Wars geek thread
Kind of a click-bait title...
SpoilerShow
And in that article, they call her Rey Skywalker. I suppose everyone else thinks that's obvious...
Toot toot.

Kind of thought it might be the case, though am hoping it isn't (it'd be nice if another Jedi turned up who wasn't related to Anakin somehow). Plus aren't Jedi Knights supposed to be celibate? Isn't that what got Anakin in a shit load of Dark Side shaped trouble in the first place? Rey's parents are obviously someone important otherwise there wouldn't be so much mystery about them.
If Lando turns out to be Finn's dad then this thing may have jumped the shark, apart from the whole "being massively entertaining" aspect.

I don't know how to embed spoilers, or I'd respond to your comments. They're valid. And yes, the title is clickbait. I thought the article made some uplifting points about Rey being a good feminist character though.

This surprised me but it's really obvious now I've read it.

Re: The Star Wars geek thread
It is amazing to me that the people involved in making Rogue One were so versed in and concerned with the minutiae of the original trilogy but then went ahead and produced a film that just takes a massive shit all over everything the original films told us regarding the events that set the stage for episode IV.tonieee wrote: ↑Wed Jan 25, 2017 19:14This surprised me but it's really obvious now I've read it.
