Viz

Post by Big Nose » Wed Jan 21, 2009 8:52 pm

Mostly because it made me piss myself during a lost period of my life.

I would appreciate if anyone could find a higher res version of this :-

I amuse myself when I am exceptionally bored by recreating Viz via the power of MS Paint.

Essential toilet reading.

I hope the Victorian Ladies 2009 calendar is hanging in your house.

I need to find out the name of one of the cartoonist's in viz as I really like his stuff and I think he's very underrated

he uses a lot of ink, morbidly so and I can't for the life of me think of any of the strips he's done but the's drawing for viz for years

it's not the drunk bakers bloke before anybody says that

You're thinking of Simon Thorp (AKA Thorpy) Linus, according to my 25 Years Of Viz book (which is essential for any Viz reader). He also does Raffles The Gentleman Thug, Farmer Palmer and Student Grant and he's considered the best drawer by all the other Viz artists. I like Davey Smith too, who does the surreal stuff like Vibrating Bum-faced Goats and Gilbert Ratchet.

I've not bought Viz for a while now. I used to buy it regularly, then it was only if I had to get a train journey or flight somewhere and now its hardly ever. I should just buy the annuals and catch up that way.

It's essential train material. Made our trip to Indietracks even more fun!

It's only funny because it was issued by the Mablethorpe Tourism Association.

I haven;t seenit yet, but I LOVE Drunken Bakers.

I was at the Tate the other day and they had a GIANT Viz. No shit.
I am struck speechless by the nape of your neck.

That giant Viz in the Tate proper made me giggle like a schoolgirl. Roger Mellie's interpretation of The Rake's Progress was also brilliant.

It was quite refreshing to see people walking around an exhibition and laughing at the exhibits.

I fell over this treasure chest of Viz recently. About 100 issues of Viz, digitally scanned as .cbr files and available for download*. For nothing.

A treasure trove of Viz issues

I've uploaded about 30 issues to my phone last week. Fantastic stuff!

*Just be wary of the pop-ups which seem to explode from the rapidshare links. They're relatively harmless, just annoying.

still reading viz, anyone?

how old is crap telly's russell kane really? just reading the latest viz and they've made me wonder how old he is really... the implication is he may be in his sixties... can anyone establish his real age for me? he's definitely not in his twenties or thirties, that much is obvious... I doubt he's in his seventies but it's possible... world?

above: russell kane, much older than he looks? does he wear a piss bag?
