Phonogram

Did anyone else read the totally brilliant Phonogram comic which came out last year? You can buy the series of 6 as a book now.

It was based around the premise that music is literally magical and the magicians were called phonomancers and would (for example) perform rituals based on the power given by Kenickie 7"s.

There were also retromancers, who were the bad guys, who drew their powers from the recycling of music past.

The comic was based around the whole re-writing-of-Britpop-history thing which is going on and it's full of nice music references (and jokes) which provides a whole second layer that the entire comic works on.

It's utterly lovely.
And by me, I mean, Flexo.

That looks fantastic. I was a massive fan of the first one - Luke Haines as a spirit guide? Yes please! - so this looks like it's going to be just as good, if slightly more contemporary. Veeeery interesting...

It looks interesting... though part of the fun with it must be that it takes REALLY SERIOUSLY music that is ultimately pretty throwaway. Apart from Luke Haines, obv.

Rue Britannia was brilliant. Got it a couple of months ago - mostly on the basis of Warren Ellis' glowing review.

The Singles Club TPB should be out soon but interestingly won't have the back-up stories that were published in the individual issues. Apparently they're saving those for a 'b-sides and rarities' type of collection. Which is an awesome idea, so long as they don't get cancelled before that happens...

Anyways, it's all there on their website:

I am struck speechless by the nape of your neck.
