why am I craving beer?

Post by christine » Wed Mar 19, 2008 00:02

I hardly ever drink beer and I'm allergic to most of it, but I'm craving it!

I bought a 12 of some good, cheap Wisconsin beer, Schaeffer. Pabst is good, too. Ahhh. I'm having a few here and there, it's good with chili and pizza.

Maybe it's me just craving warmer weather and being someplace hot and having a cold beer.

You're craving beer because it's delicious.

I've never had PBR but speaking of American beer I'd bloody love a pint of Anchor Steam Beer right now. Yes, it is 9.57am. I'm a massive bum.

This might surprise some of you, but I haven't bought any lager from an offy for ages, but yesterday I bought four cans of Grolsch and it was only £3.29. Has beer suddenly got cheaper?

Well, you'd think so. I paid £3.35 for a pint in a crappy bar in Nottingham last night.

is the tax the same for beer in pubs as in offies?
cos there's no tax on takeaway food but there is if you eat in. mebbe that's why?

Oh dear, I never actually realised that the reason eat in food is more expensive than takeaway food was because of tax. I always thought it was because they had to clean up after you. I really am a bit dim at times. I do know that chocolate biscuits are taxed, whereas plain ones like digestives aren't (and cakes aren't either which I've always found a bit odd).

Anyway, back on topic. I went to the pub to watch the rugby on saturday and 3 pints of decent (well 2 were decent as one of the pints was Carling, eugh!) beer came to £8 something which I thought was really good value. I was in a pub recently that had labels on the pumps saying that they weren't going to put the prices up. I've not bought beer in an offie for ages so I'm not sure if prices here have gone up or down.

I'm craving de koninck now, they have it on tap in a few pubs here now which is great as I've only ever seen it on tap in Belgium (and maybe the Netherlands too, I can't really remember). I'm going back home this weekend so I'll get some Caledonian 80/- while I'm there.
I wish I could make this train
go faster than anything

A sixpack of 0,33 l cans of Heineken at my local supermarket is € 4,79. Which is about £3,75. I only buy Grolsch if there's no other option available, but I think the prize for that is about the same.

I'm having a three day Easter weekend, and only one beer in the fridge. Which I am, indeed, craving right now. I'd better just give in and be done with it.

Yes, enjoy that beer. Good plan. I'm sure you can get hold of more.

Well, we had a spankin' good Singing Bridges practice last Friday and Tim the guitar player brought over a THIRTY of Schaeffers - my man. Wow, beer makes you really stupid, but it was fun. Then William teased me because I was slurring (this is all recorded, by the way) and DARED, literally DARED us to play "straight," and we actually did it. There is something to be said about having a nice buzz while playing in a band! There is a happy medium there, somewhere.

Hi Christine,

What in beer gives you allergic reactions? Maybe it's the conservatives? Sulfites are known to cause that.
I like Erdinger, btw, and a local beer called Baden Baden. Delicious stuff.

Not sure what it is, but I can drink lighter beers, like pilsner, etc., and not that heavy stuff. Although I DO love guinness!!!

I prefer the stronger darker kinds, like Bock and Stout. I hate Bitter, though. Have you tried wheat beer to see if it's better for your allergy? It's delicious.

My craving for a nice pint of frambozen left my wailing from the depths of my purse strings. £4.60 a pint?!?!? I bought two and was left staring at the 80p in my hand after handing over a tenner whimpering 2I don' unnerstand..."

I had a cherry beer the other day. Anyone else ever had one? I wouldn't recommend, they don't taste too good.

Fixed. Thanks.
I didn't find the cherry beer too sweet. Maybe it's the brand.

My favourite thus far is Bacchus Cherry beer because it is the sweetest.
