the moosewood peanut curry soup recipe that i love so much has both sultanas and bananas in it. curries from southern india often have fruit in them. mango in curry can be really good.

you want to know what is really gross, though. japanese curry. or kare as they call it. it is quite possibly the most disgusting thing passing for food on the planet. this from the country that brought the world nato.

Yep :) That's the one. I've seen recipies on the net, but, having tried curry recipies on the net that ended up nowhere near where they should have been, I'm not sure how much accuracy to attribute to them....

Is that like the brown stuff you get on katsu curry in wagamamas, or as we call it chip shop curry sauce?

"This katsu curry is just like a kentucky fried chicken smothered in chip shop curry"

"yeah, good innit"

i guess. i think i mistakenly ordered that once *ages* ago (back before wagamamas was a chain. !) but it was so long ago i can't remember. basically, it's some bizarre synthetic mix of spices made into a gravy with some meat and veg in it. it's truly disgusting. i'm always shocked and appalled to find that anyone actually eats it, much less likes it.

sorry, i'm going on a bit...

As unhealthy Glaswegian children we used to go to a very grim Chinese takeaway called "Evelyn's" at lunch times and buy fried rice covered in that generic brown curry sauce (heart disease in Scotland explained) and to this day I find myself gravitating towards it every time I order in a Japanese restaurant even though I know it's vaguely disgusting and tastes weirdly synthetic as if it's came straight out of a tin (probably has). I blame my west of Scotland upbringing too.

i'm a fan of the katsu curry as well! i think it all started with chips and curry sauce. there's something really comforting about a veggie katsu curry over rice.

I've never tried a katsu curry...I don't think anyone here does it...as much as I love trying out a new type of curry, from the descriptions, I don't think I'm in any hurry to try this one....

I still don't know what a kurzi is either....

i'm having flashbacks to Fuji Rock where my British friend was getting chips from one place and then asking the guy at the Japanese curry stall to put some of the gravy on her chips. she said it was like the curry sauce for chips back home.
